The Benefits of Homeschooling

Article Overview: Being with your child builds a strong relationship. Now kids can be farmed out from infancy to their late teens with very little interaction with their parents. Is it any wonder that so much friction comes about between teenagers and their parents because neither knows the other? Being with your child in a homeschool setting provides not only the chance to teach your child but to listen (very important) to their ideas, pains, fears, joys and other feelings they are experiencing.

The Benefits of Homeschooling
As a former homeschooler of nine years, I take pleasure in reflecting upon the times spent as my son's teacher. The responsibility was gigantic but the benefits were fantastic. I am thankful that I had the spunk to take on teaching my son since he and I soon found out that his father had no desire to work a "normal" job and would uproot us quickly to leave town to chase another rainbow or to avoid some negative circumstance he had created.
So if I had not taught my son, who would have? Besides, I had been his teacher up to that point so it just naturally converted into homeschooling for his formal education. We moved around a lot but with little interruption because we could continue lessons no matter where we were. But I preferred the times when we stayed put for a while because it is much better to keep a "normal" routine in a classroom setting.
The following are a few benefits of homeschooling:
Being with your child builds a strong relationship.
Also, getting to know your child better now in their formative years helps determine the curriculum chosen. You do not have to teach your child across the board in a particular grade level. If need be, a subject may be "repeated/built upon" without any embarrassment to your child which is often prevalent in a public school setting.
Since there has been "intellectual" warfare for many years arguing over curriculum issues, it is now blessedly up to you to control what your child is taught or not taught. You decide if it is to be a Bible based teaching or will follow any other beliefs you may have. You must provide your child with an excellent education not use it to further some agenda of yours.
While you are working closely every day with your child, you will find out where they excel. There are countless ways you can build on that fact to make school more fun. You can also accelerate the teaching you do in that subject. Give your child something to be proud of and use it to build their self esteem. This will make more difficult subjects come easier. Your child knows how well they are doing in another subject so they know they can do better in more difficult subjects.
Likewise you will find out where your child needs more attention. This can be handled in such a way that self esteem is not bruised as is the case in some public school settings. This is an excellent opportunity for you to help your child overcome obstacles which is an important life lesson. They must learn to tackle problems. You can teach them how.
Furthermore, you can set an objective to handle this situation. You can set aside more time in the day to work on the "problem" subject. Filling up the traditional school's 8:00 to 3:00 hours in a one on one situation is difficult anyway, so use this time as part of your regular school day to benefit your child's needs. Go to the library together or go online together to find ways to help your child conquer the subject. Listening to your child is so important. If you listen to what they are telling you, you will learn why this subject gives them problems.
More benefits to homeschooling:
More freedom and flexibility in curriculum, school hours, field trips
Ability to travel if necessary/wanted in case there is a death in the family or if your family is moving
Listening to other homeschoolers' problems/joys; set up a book cooperative to save on textbooks; a wonderful idea and builds relationships in the homeschooling community
My life is more enjoyable because of my son, my dog, Mo, friends and family and this gift from God: Cattle on 1000 Hills that you can look at on my bio.You will not find me on this site though as I have enlisted the help of a friend to tell you an amazing story which is not unique to this internet marketing business. No cattle or land for sale. Just a fantastic opportunity from an internet marketing strategist.

Staunch Republican and Southern Baptist which is considered by some to be a lethal combination. Belonging to the ranks of those laid off, I am rebuilding my life so my writing will soon reflect as much. Burning desire in my soul to write but for two years now the only writing I have done is resumes and cover letters. Cattle on 1000 Hills as my blopspot name http://cattleon1000hills.blogspot.com, Facebook, have lain dormant too long. They are about to bust loose! My friends think I am crazy or brave or both but I have decided to leave the comforts of my 'home' and move to the mountains where I always planned on 'retiring'. I can enjoy hiking with my dog, Mo, sitting in front of my potbellied stove reading and writing, and sitting outside writing with the music of nature in my ears instead of all the sounds of the city which now annoy me. Mo, a Newffie, looks like a bear and we hope to see a black bear but not up close and personal. Mo is about the size of a smaller black bear so he will have to wear the hunting vests I custom made for him when we hike so no one mistakes him for one. I am so excited about our new life and long to begin writing from all that has been saved up during this dormancy.
