Home Based Businesses - Why Are They Better Than Conventional Jobs

Home based businesses are great and conventional jobs suck! This is especially true if you dislike your job, your employer and/or supervisor. A home based business is the current trend for thousands of individuals looking for financial relief as a result of the current economic climate. With the economic meltdown that is occurring and loss of millions of jobs, more and more people are looking for options to improve their financial well being and to maintain and/or to improve their life styles. Under these circumstances, the answer to most of their financial concerns is for them to set up a home based business. There are about millions of individuals looking for a home based business in the United States alone. Here are some reasons why a home business model is so popular:

Personal Freedom:

Working for yourself means that you have more choices to choose whichever field you enjoy working in. Once you do get into your chosen business, you can productively spend your time, setting yourself up and investing your time and efforts into learning more about your business.

You will have more time to spend with your family. It will allow you to socialize with your friends and others at your convenience. You can go out on picnics with your family or watch movies more often. Keep in mind that a home based business does not mean that you have less work to do. In fact you will have a lot more work to do, however, it will be more enjoyable and you will have a lot more flexibility in scheduling your daily personal and business affairs.

No Supervisor Breathing Down Your Neck:

Wow! That sounds great, doesn't it? For people who don't like having bosses, working from home is certainly a very attractive option. You don't have to get coffee for your boss or work hard to please someone in order to stay in the job. You can even work in your pajamas if you want. You can now work in any manner that you feel comfortable and follow your own schedule.

However, since you are now the boss, it means that you have to think for yourself and take responsibility for your own decisions. This is something which requires some training, especially if you are used to working for others for a long time. When you are used to working under someone, your decision-making abilities may have been depressed. As your business grows you will learn to make your own decisions easier and more effectively which will also allow you to achieve greater control over your life and to grow as a person.

Owning A Home Based Business Requires Effort:

Owning a home based business does not automatically put you on "easy street". Even though, home based business is a great option for most people when you compare it to a 9 to 5 job, it is by no means an automatic ticket to financial success. In fact, 95 percent of home businesses fail because most people do not realize what it takes to build a sustaining income.

Any businesses require a lot of hard work and commitment on your part. It requires you to be responsible and accountable for your own decisions. You'll need to have a lot of patience.

Consider this: A rocket uses up more fuel in the first few miles to escape from the earth's gravitational force than it does during its entire journey of millions of miles. Similarly, a home business requires a lot of effort in the beginning to get it up and running properly. Failure on your part to recognize this critical issue will lead to your frustration and eventual business demise in short order. The foundation that you build your business on in the beginning needs to be able to support it into the future. That is why you need to set up good, sound business practices in the beginning so that you will not have to continually go back and fix your mistakes.

Working from home and/or working for someone else each has their own share of pluses and minuses. However, after considering all the pros and cons, you will find that the best option by far is the more rewarding and satisfying experience amongst the two of owning a home based business.

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? - Thanks for sharing with us Yinko. Steve Jobs is definitely a visionary. Not only his products are innovative in a technological sense, but he's managed to turn a tech-company's products into a lifestyle.... a lifestyle!! [quote:zfqoq43n]Fast Forward to today. Apple has the sexiest products in the business: iMacs, Macbooks, iPhones, iPods and more.[/quote:zfqoq43n] I think not only tech would be different (music players and phones), but ways we can think of marketing and branding. What Steve Jobs did was of course no easy task for the smaller businesses, but he did start somewhere. What I did not know was that Apple is worth about as much as Google. How do you think Apple accomplish what they did? In terms of strategy wise? If you could advice Steve on one thing, what would it be?
Re: Are you getting an iPad 2? Re: Are you getting an iPad 2? - @GT - we can talk more about it once I get one and I'm happy to answer any questions to see if it might fit your lifestyle. @Yinka - Sorry, no payment from Steve Jobs... I wish!
Re: What are the top videos for entrepreneurs on YouTube? Re: What are the top videos for entrepreneurs on YouTube? - I've seen the Steve Jobs video a few times and it is a great one. Off to watch David's suggestion right now. Thanks guys! I'll try to find one of my own to add to the list.
