RESEARCHING AN ONLINE HOME BASED BUSINESS
You’ve made the decision that you want to
work as an online home based business
entrepreneur –
perhaps you are not far off retirement age, or you want to spend more time with
the family, or perhaps you’re just finding it hard to get a job. Whatever the reason, it is important to do
thorough research; statistics show that the majority of people actually buy
into 7 online businesses before they find either a genuine one, or one that
suits them. As you can imagine, this can
become a costly exercise.
So how do you tell before you hand over
your hard-earned cash if a business is going to be a scam, or if it is a
genuine one which is going to make you lots of money? The short answer of course if that you don’t;
however there are several things to look for and research.
1. Is it a Unique Product that has a high demand?
For example
there are many hundreds, maybe thousands of online nutritional companies, and
although there is certainly a high demand for various vitamins and health
juices, it is going to be very hard for you to get your voice heard among
everyone else who is competing for a sale.
So look very carefully for a niche market (one way to do this is with
one of the keyword tools). Information marketing is
a good area to look at, as there is a lot of demand for information on every
subject under the sun, and you could tie it in to a subject that you are
familiar with, such as a hobby or your trade.
Consider the
value to you, what I mean by this is, that if there wasn’t a business attached
to the particular product, would it be of any use to you?
2. What is the Compensation Plan like?
Some businesses
have low upfront fees with a high residual, others high upfront but low residual. What you are looking for is a more balanced
structure, as you need to make big commissions from the start in order to keep
yourself positive and focused.
Look for a
product which sells for $1000 or more, with a commission of at least 50%. There
should also be income streams to provide you with a residual income opportunity, for when you
want to retire or travel or just plain have a break.
3. Are there any Marketing
Systems in place?
Does the marketing
system suit your needs, is it an automatic system, is it easy to understand,
does it include building and hosting a web site for you? (Important if you are
relatively new to internet marketing).
4. Training and Support
What is the training
system like – do they have staff or do you have to rely on the sponsor who
brings you into the business? Is there a community forum, where you can meet
others like yourself, and discuss different problems and solutions as a group
of people happy to help one another? Is
there a direct phone line where you can get one-on-one help if you need it?
5. Company management
Again, do your
research on the people who are running the business. Google the names, check them out on Facebook,
find out how long they’ve been in business, what their long term goals are, if
they ‘give back’ to the community.
6. Take Your Time
Don’t rush into
anything. It doesn’t matter if it takes
6-months…..a year. But follow these
guidelines, and you are well on the way getting it right the first time
