The Value of Keywords

Guest post by: Janet Houghton

Article Overview: A keyword is a word that is going to be placed in your article several times, not just once (as that would make every word a keyword). When a spider sees that you have a word placed several times in an article, it will determine that your page may be useful to users that search for such a keyword. Keyword density and placement are valuable parts of optimizing your articles for search engines. Search engine spiders scan a page in a way that makes it important to place your keywords where they will be detected and recognized as a keyword, so that your article will come up when someone searches for that keyword.

The Value of Keywords

Keyword density and placement are valuable parts of optimizing your articles for search engines. Search engine spiders scan a page in a way that makes it important to place your keywords where they will be detected and recognized as a keyword, so that your article will come up when someone searches for that keyword.

What is a Keyword?

A keyword is a word that is going to be placed in your article several times, not just once ( as that would make every word a keyword). When a spider sees that you have a word placed several times in an article, it will determine that your page may be useful to users that search for such a keyword.

Over Optimizing Your Articles

It is important to note that there is also such a thing as over optimizing your articles for particular words; this is known as “keyword stuffing”. When you stuff keywords in an article a spider will detect that you are trying to trick it into placing your article high in the search engine results for that word, and will instead penalize your site and your page for doing just that. It may even affect the rankings of your other pages or get your site blacklisted from a particular search engine if you are found keyword stuffing too many times.

What is Keyword Density?

Keyword density is how many times your keyword is placed in your article. Most use a percentage to determine how many times they will put a keyword in an article. For instance, if you have a 500 word article and want to achieve a keyword density of 5%, then you will need to have the keyword in your article exactly 25 times.

You can find hundreds of resources and guides recommending one keyword density over another and the reasons behind the logic. However, in the end you are the only one who can determine which density is more profitable for your articles based on past results. As long as you don’t over optimize and you are ranking well, then you can choose whatever keyword density you like.

No matter what exact density you choose, the important thing is to place keywords so that there are more at the beginning and end to produce an hour glass effect. Having the right keyword density in your article makes it more likely that you will make money from that article, because it will rise in the search engine results and be seen by more people.

Scoping Your Articles for Ghostwriters Scoping Your Articles for Ghostwriters - Martin, can you advise your process for scoping out the work for article writing. specifically, 1. How do you scope the boundaries of the article? (is it by the Keywords?) 2. How many keywords do you provide to the ghostwriter for an article of a certain size? 3. How do you measure quality? (is it just your impression that the article is good)? 4. Who owns the article? 5. How do you know that this article is not published elsewhere on the Internet? Thanks
Re: Traffic! How do you get it? Re: Traffic! How do you get it? - I agree, [i:1z2pskgt]"The solution before getting traffic, is RESEARCH"[/i:1z2pskgt]. "Keywords" are the source of traffic and its completely true that we should do a bit of research before crafting an article. Now a days, i see like its quite easy to rank well for long tail keywords esp. on Google because of the "freshness" in serp. The newly indexed articles are placed above the older articles to show fresh content to the user. Its advantage too but the question is, how long you stay in top position ?
Keywords Keywords - Keywords in your URL are good, but you also need to include these in headings on your pages. If you were going to search Google for this content, what words would you use? What common words would people use in a search engine if they wanted to find your site? You don't need to overdo the headers, just add a couple to each page and especially on your home page to attract search engines. I think someone also mentioned listing your site in directories. This is good and make sure to list your site under beauty - this should attract people that want to find you. Trading links with sites is good and especially sites that attract the people you want to bring onto your site. Miss Shri
