How To Leave A Lasting Impression
|
| Guest post by: David Beairsto |
Article Overview: When you only have a few seconds to get noticed in this hyper-quickened audio-visual world of ours, a lasting impression typically depends upon whether or not you were noticed at all. Squeezing our focus into that first frame people see will not only determine if we leave an impression, but exactly what that impression will be.

How To Leave A Lasting Impression
Where Is The Remote?
Within 2 to 5 seconds the human eye delivers an image that will either be dismissed by the brain or filed away as a lasting impression. In a fast paced world TV shows, movies and all things audio visual have to compete with an ever decreasing attention span. I know people who walk out of theaters if they don't see any action during the opening credits. Switching off and changing channels has become an activity in its own right.
Scary Headlines
Printed news has the same dilemma and faces extinction because of online news. Having to flip through newspapers or magazines where the headlines are scattered to and fro across the page is a hassle. The internet gives you bookmarks, news sites, browser headlines and the all powerful ‘search' option. Online news sites are also smart enough to list the headlines in a straight column so that you can scroll through them quickly with one hand while the other holds a cup of coffee. Even this article stands to be the shortest I've ever written; go ahead and check if you've got the time.
How to Get Filed Away
Businesses grow fastest with repeat business which means a lasting impression is vital. Leaving an impression is only a matter of getting noticed in that 5 second window of time. How we're noticed has an affect upon what that impression looks like. Not all images are stored in the same filing cabinet either. Great impressions have a special place and that's where we want to be.
