Every entrepreneur must have an ongoing personal development program. They use books and other inspirational material to build up self confidence. The exercises for personal development help to keep the individual trained in self discipline.

The mastermind marketing group helps in a similar way to develop individual skills or plans. They work in harmony to further develop each other in specific ways. When different people share their unique talents and personalities, everyone benefits.

If I'm Brilliant Do I Really Need This?

This concept has applications on many different levels. From the perspective of a home business owner, forming this group can serve many purposes.

1. Monitoring work performance through accountability

2. Measuring productivity of specific processes

3. Sharing ideas and results

4. Mentoring or tutoring each other

5. Developing systems or material for training others

Can I Still Be The Captain Of My Own Ship?

My work performance is subject to the normal weaknesses and inconsistencies of being human. In the company of trusted friends those faults can be examined. Insight from an observer can bring a fresh perspective as well as possible solutions to the issues I face.

By working in harmony everyone gains both understanding and strength. Being held accountable by someone else also improves self discipline. I make excuses for my performance more easily if no one else has to hear them.

If It Don't Work, Fix It

Marketing professionals develop processes for various campaigns or strategies. They usually include some way of measuring productivity. The mastermind marketing group will have several similar processes to compare.

Using a formula can tell how productive a plan has been. Comparing different marketing techniques shows which is more productive. We don't discard a technique because it isn't effective; we try to improve it. The idea is to have diversified campaigns, each improving over time.

The group can lay several similar processes side by side to examine the advantages one has over another. The privilege of quickly identifying how to increase productivity is shared by everyone. This happens because no two people take the exact same approach to the same situation.

What A Brilliant Idea! Who Thought Of That?

In a similar way, the ideas shared collectively have greater application than the thoughts of only one mind. Brainstorming alone can be like a light rain or drizzle. When the mastermind group brainstorms, you typically need a recorder so that nothing is lost in the downpour.

Every member may not implement the same idea, which means gathering the results becomes another group effort. One particular idea proves profitable, while another is deemed a waste of time. The outcome is still beneficial because not everyone wasted time but everyone now has a new profitable idea.

Knowledge Isn't Powerful Unless Applied

Educated people understand the advantage of learning one on one. Anything that we learn on our own takes more time than it does through direct instruction.

If I want to form a mastermind marketing group for the purpose of strengthening our specific businesses, my focus will be on specialized skills. Every member has something unique to offer, as well as a specific need to fill. We can mentor and tutor one another more effectively if we have identified the areas in which we each need help.

Groups that develop specific courses of study are comprised of several specialists in one area. One person developing material for training will only have a singular point of view. The group perspective has an advantage to communicate the material to a larger audience.

This strategy is only as effective as the group's ability to come together in agreement of purpose. Sharing the same intent allows everyone concerned to accomplish much more than they would alone. Transparent honesty and integrity will always be evident because without those characteristics, harmony won't exist. In order for several minds to work as one, they must be harmonious.

BNI Groups - do they work? - Hi Lesley, From the members in my Mastermind Group I've heard a number of positive and negative things about BNI Groups. Just like a Mastermind Group, it all depends on who the people are. If the personalities fit and the members can add value to your business it can be worth checking out. The best bet is to go to a meeting as a guest to get a sense of who is in the group and if it is for you. It doesn't cost you anything except a little extra sleep the morning of. Good luck!
Re: On Which Social Media Sites Are You Most Active? - I must respectfully disagree completely with that premise Evan. When speaking of a "Small Group", we are talking abotu a "Mastermind Group". As we all know, such a group is instrumental to success, online or off. The groups can grow quite large too. My group currently has 35 members, but several are actively participating and sharing content.
Celebrity Apprentice - Thanks for the heads-up Kevin. I didn't even realize the new season was starting! Looks like they need to do some more promotion! I've got a Mastermind Group Thursday night but will hopefully catch a rerun later on in the evening!
