Work At Home Dads - With Multiple Incomes

Written by: David Beairsto

Article Overview: Work at home dads with multiple incomes have tapped into the beauty of the internet business model where cross over niches allow affiliate marketing to occur. Better than a second or third job is the entrepreneur who works the same amount of time while multiplying their income.

Work At Home Dads - With Multiple Incomes

Hardware Store Mentality Men love hardware stores and work at home dads get that. When we take on a project we generally know whether we've got the tools necessary to do the job. If we don't have them we ask a neighbor, if they don't have what we need we're off to the hardware store.

Somewhere between our home and the store the mental shift between what we need and what we want kicks in.

Going to the hardware store can be an educational experience for marketing professionals. We know they've got what we need there, but they also have what we want.

New and Improved Fish Oil

Every single product we ever consider marketing has a specific appeal to a very well defined niche. Even products that are beneficial to everyone fall into this category. Not everyone wants, nor will they typically buy something they actually need.

Looking back over the years I can identify people who never developed a desire for things that our family would be hard pressed to live without. Want has always been a more powerful motivation in marketing. This is why selling went out of style long ago.

If you try to interest someone in what they need a trigger goes off in their mind telling them you're trying to sell something. On the other hand if you have what someone wants they generally just need to know the price.

Inherent Value

Work at home dads have access to multiple income streams for two very important reasons:

1. There are many small niches and products for every one of them.

2. Affiliations generate more income than individual business owners.

We understand that our work in marketing demands that we prepare and present specific answers to specific wants. Niche marketing implies that although people may have an interest in several areas, they don't want the whole store.

Nothing has value unless it's desired. In fact the desire for a product or service precedes design and invention. Demand is the horse before the cart of supply.

One Big Happy Community

Many home business owners share common cross over areas with other entrepreneurs. The practice of affiliate marketing has essentially tied together a wide network of moms and dads that work at home.

When my network is exposed to a new business opportunity not everyone takes advantage of the affiliate offer. Even though everyone wants more money, they know there is no shortage of opportunities online, and another income stream is likely to show up any minute.

Multiple business setup legal/accounting. Multiple business setup legal/accounting. - We have multiple business operations, all related but currently run seperately under "doing business as" registered names. We are looking at options of changing our operations to protect assets and improve the tax situation. The businesses include a multiple farrier practice, a horse breeding/sales operation, a horse training operation, a riding/horse leasing operation, and an architectural blacksmithing operation. Our thought is to organize in a manner that will protect the assets of each operation should one fall into trouble. In addition we would like to operate so the two primaries are receiving a single large income each rather than mutliple small incomes. My question is what would be the best way to organize these individual operations from both an accounting and legal perspective (i.e. incorporate a holding company and register the individual businesses under the holding company.)
Home Office vs Rented Office Home Office vs Rented Office - Another advantage to having a home office is the low overhead expenses. My monthly office costs would be increased by 300-400% if I had to rent an office. THis allows me to pass those savings on to my clients and also decreases the financial stress of being in business. I appreciate the savings that a home office gives me and none of my clients mind. Its not for everyone and I understand that. I have friends who work from home and they have lots of distractions. I get far more work done since I work from home, although I do work much longer hours, but that's my choice at this point. I wouldn't want to work until 10 or 11 pm and then have to travel home, but this arrangement makes it work for me. Shri
Re: Workaholism May Be Killing You Re: Workaholism May Be Killing You - Hi Evan, Thanks for this post, I found the article very interesting and I do regularly work 12 hours or more but that is a total of my day job then Internet work when I get home, I must say that I agree with Michelle that I only feel that I work at my day job and my Internet work I really enjoy although some nights I go to bed absolutely shattered. There is an old saying that I think I may have used here before but it is something like “If you enjoy what you do then you never do a days work in your life”. If I ever get to the stage when I work form home full time then this would be the case for me because I love this work and would do it full time from home tomorrow if I could. regards, Mal.
Re: Balancing Your Man & Business Re: Balancing Your Man & Business - One issue is the same women face with little kids, if they run home based businesses. If you work out of your home, your man, or your kids, think you don't really work, and its okay to interrupt because it's "only them." But it actually is a major distraction to try to be doing some creative work and having your family coming at you all the time. Boundaries for home workers need to be set, and no guilting them out of it!
Re: Why Did You Become An Entrepreneur? Re: Why Did You Become An Entrepreneur? - Hi members, This is a great post by Evan and I am late getting on board but I thought I would ad my few cents worth, LOL. I must say that wanting to be an Entrepreneur or work for myself has never ever meant that I wanted to have my own company, that has never been my motivation. My motivation has always been to work from home and be in control of my life, nothing else. Just to be able to organise my life around working from home would be a dream come true for me and is something I am striving for. I have always been a fairly organised sort of person so the old trap of giving myself too much time off would probably work just the opposite for me. I would be so frightened of failure I would probably work too much. There is an old saying which goes something like ’If you love what you do then you never do a days work in your life’. It is something like that anyway and for many of us, working from home would seem like that, it certainly would for me, regards, Mal.
