Why Dedication to Lifelong Learning is a Key to Success

Jim Rohn said it best that you should “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” The most successful people in any industry will tell you that they spent a considerable amount of time honing their skills and working on their personal development.

If you want to succeed in the network marketing business, or as an entrepreneur in general, you must dedicate yourself to lifelong learning. Work on developing yourself for the rest of your life. There is no obstacle that you can’t overcome, and no problem that you can’t solve. Your mind is like a muscle, where it only develops when you use it. In other words, you have to work your mental muscles to build up your mind. The more you learn, the more you increase your capacity to learn more things. It’s just like a sport – the more you play, the better you get.

Leaders are learners, and continuous learning is key to success in the 21st century. Make a decision that you will be a student in your craft, and commit to always improving yourself. First, spend about 30-60 minutes a day reading things in your field. Reading is to the mind as exercise is to body. Reading 30-60 minutes a day translates into one book per week. That totals to 50 books per year, which then totals 500 books over the next 10 years. The average adult reads less than one book per year, so you will already put yourself ahead of the crowd and have an edge in the field.

Second, if you drive to work, listen to audio programs during your commute. The average person sits for about 500-1000 hours per year in a car. This is equivalent to about one to two full time semesters at university. Turn your car into a university on wheels, and make sure there is an educational audio program playing, such as sales training or motivational CDs.

Finally, take every course or seminar that will help you become an expert in your field. Be careful of who is conducting the seminar. There are many people who claim they are gurus, so make sure they have a solid track record to back up their teachings and that they practice what they preach.

Through a combination of books, audio programs, and seminars, you will position yourself as an expert and leader in your field. This is how continuous life long learning has a positive impact on you, and unlocks the door to success.

Re: My Favourite 7 Boldest Entrepreneur Moves of All Time Re: My Favourite 7 Boldest Entrepreneur Moves of All Time - Hi Evan, I have a new suggestion for "Boldest Entrepreneur Moves of All Time" and a suggestion for your Learning from the Masters series: 1. Boldest Entrepreneur Moves of All Time = Christopher Columbus: "... he saw the possibility of treasure and commerce where others saw only danger. He committed so wholeheartedly to that vision that not even dozens of rejections and ongoing penury could dissuade him from pursuing a journey to Asia via the West. He built on his technical strengths as a seaman to plan a viable journey and eventually marshal an expedition." - Christopher Hoenig, 6 Essential Secrets for Thinking on a New Level I bought Hoenig's book about 10 years ago but couldn't make head or tail of it then... reading it now and finding it inspirational... 2. Re: Success Re: Success - I study success intently, and would like to share: Here's two excellent and nearly identical success-formulas from a couple of the world's masters. FIRST FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Clear, Definite Purpose 3. Committed Decision 4. Take Action In Faith (Bonus Secret Sauce: 5. Repeat Consistently) I made a video about this, but am not allowed to link it yet. Google "Ryze Success Steps" for it. Oh, and this is Napoleon Hill's (Master Of Success Laws)'s Formula. SECOND FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Understand It Is Already Done (Faith) 3. Relax & Allow It To Unfold (Go about your life calmly) This one is courtesy of Abraham-Hicks (inspiration for the movie The Secret). Hope that helps!
What is your hit ratio? What is your hit ratio? - Like most entrepreneurs I have more ideas for where I want to take my business than I can handle. I believe in the "fail early, fail often" philosophy and try to find small ways to get started on a project to see if it has any legs. I would estimate that for every 50 things I try, most of them don't have an impact for me, 10 of them have a slightly positive impact, and 1 hits it really big. Some of my big wins over the past few years have been: * Learning the ins and outs of search engine optimization to drive traffic * Putting up and optimizing Google AdSense ads to monetize the website * Deciding to be the leader in profiling famous entrepreneurs online * Recruiting outside authors to help contribute to the website content (now have over 25,000 pages) * Creating the entrepreneur forums * Bringing on staff to help cope with the daily amount of work required to keep things running smoothly What is your hit ratio and some of your big wins?
