Why We Need to Create Associations of Success

To thrive in any entrepreneurial venture, we need to create associations of success. Most of us have heard the saying that we are the average of the 5 people with whom we are most closely associated. Your associations of success will help you follow through with your plan and achieve your goals. You can have the greatest vision and put together the most complete plan of achieving that goal. However, being surrounded by only negative and unsupportive people will derail your plans of making your goal and vision a reality.

Without associations of success, your negative associations may not directly push you off the path towards success, but they can slowly nudge you off the path over a period of time. The effects are quite subtle, but if you constantly hear your friends or family say, “That’s not going to work,” or “You can’t do that,” your subconscious mind will start to absorb these negative suggestions, and then you will start losing your confidence and belief that you can carry through with your plan. This will inevitably lead to underachievement and failure.

If you want to be successful in the network marketing industry, or any other industry where having the entrepreneurial spirit is important to success, you need to closely evaluate the five closest people in your life. Are they associations of success?

Take the time to reprioritize the people with whom you are going to associate with, especially if you have made the commitment to reach new heights of success. You should then organize your associations into three different categories: disassociations, limited associations, and expanded associations. The following is an explanation of each category:

Disassociations – These are the types of people who constantly complain and have nothing but negative influence on your life. While this may be a painful process, you need to make the hard decision to remove any negative influence from your life. Otherwise, you will be held back by these people and fail to reach your goals. You should think that this is more painful in the long term.

Limited Associations - These are the types of people where you decide whether you will spend 3 hours with them or 3 minutes. You need to evaluate what type of influence they may have on you, and then decide how much of their influence you will let into your life. Obviously, the more positive the influence, the more time you will spend with them.

Expanded Associations – These are the people you want to spend more time with because they have achieved success in the area where you want to make improvements. For example, if you want to become more spiritual, spend time with someone who has achieved spiritual abundance. If you want to become a successful business owner, spend more with someone you consider as a role model and learn from them. Join organizations where you think these people may belong and make friends with them.

Make sure to create your associations of success with 5 incredible people from whom you want to learn. This will keep you on your path towards success.

Think like an Association Think like an Association - Hey Sebastian, Maybe you could try thinking like an Association... I would study the structure or formats used by other Associations. What are they doing to add value for their members? The BBB plays a monitoring role for consumers by gathering data about business' that are behaving badly. And they're pretty successful at it too. Maybe you can offer a 'Platinum Program' that franchisors buy into. Accredited members only. Criteria could be strict: 1. Age (stability): 10+ years 2. Satisfied franchisees: 85% + satisfaction 3. Size (stability again): 250 units 4. Strong profits 5. Great management -Maybe a 'Gold Program' for those Franchisors that aren't quite at that level, but can strive to reach it... -Top 100, 500, 1000 Listing for qualified members... maybe a slap at Entrepreneur.com and their biased top 10 lists... -Maybe act as a monitor like BBB? -Maybe team up with FranSurvey OR do something similar for each member (not sure about Fransurvey's rep, but I like the concept) There's so much discontent within the franchising arena that I think if you were part of the solution, then you could create a win/win with your Association. The only downside is that this power can get abused if there aren't good checks and balances within the association.
Re: Getting Press Coverage Re: Getting Press Coverage - Thanks for those extra tips again Evan. Also don't forget the 'purple cow' theory. Create something truly awesome and unique and people will pay attention, including journalists. I have some off the wall stuff planned for 2010.
Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur - The situation that Wezi describes is more the norm than the exception. I have spoken to many "entrepreneurs-to-be" that have a desire to work for themselves but can't overcome the fear of making that critical leap. The truth of the matter is, if fear is preventing you from moving forward with your own business you need to overcome that fear first. To do this, try this exercise: 1. Write down as many detailed reasons why you are DISSATISFIED with remaining in your job until you retire. E.g., it won't let you achieve the lifestyle you desire; you are sick of commuting an hour each day; etc. 2. Write down in as much detail as possible your VISION of what your life will be like once you have your own business and you are fully engaged in it. Enjoy this step. 3. Create a list of the action steps you need to actually complete to get things rolling. What do you need to do first? Second? Third? Create a step by step plan. These three steps all work together to overcome any resistance you may feel towards making a major change in your career. If after these exercises, you are still too afraid, look at what you have written down. Chances are one of the three forces for change (dissatisfaction, vision, or first steps) are not yet strong enough to overcome your fear. Perhaps, once you really thought about it, things aren't really that bad in your current career, etc.... Hope this helps.
