Why You Must Master Self-Discpline

How many times have you felt the urge to take a small break and watch TV while you are in the middle of writing an article? Or perhaps you’re in the middle of making your prospect calls, and suddenly you decide you want to chat with your friend about weekend plans without completing your other calls? I know it’s important to take breaks once in a while, and you should to recharge your batteries, but have you ever experienced taking a break, and suddenly that break turns into a few hours and you suddenly don’t want to do that task anymore? Most of us have been guilty at one point or another, but it’s important to complete income-producing tasks to put you closer to your goals. Out of all the skills, mastering self-discipline and focus is key to success.

Make the effort to practice self-discipline in all things, since this is one of the most important qualities of success. If you do what you should do, whether you feel like it or not, your success is guaranteed. Resist the urge of instant gratification and think from the long-term perspective. You must focus on those activities that will help you achieve your long-term goals. In order to do this, you must have self-mastery, self-control, self-responsibility, and self-direction.

The main difference between successful people and failures is that successful people do things that failures don’t like to do. Successful people attach pleasure to getting results, no matter how painful the task may be. Successful people are not afraid to do things that are difficult, while others like to only do things that are easy and can gain immediate gratification. When you practice self-discipline, your self-esteem goes up, and you are able to master the great challenges of life. Everything in life involves a test, and you are taking the test of self-mastery and self-discipline. Can you pass the test and make yourself do things until it’s complete?

Set priorities on your activities and concentrate on one task at a time. By setting priorities and concentrating, you can accomplish anything. Work on the highest priority task until it is completed. Begin by making a list of everything you have to do before you begin. Set priorities by asking yourself the following questions: What are my highest value activities? What is more valuable than everything else I do? What can I do that if done well, will make a real difference? In other words, what activity can I do that will make a significant difference? What is the most valuable use of my time right now?

The ability to determine the most valuable, single use of time is key to high productivity. Work single mindedly on one task, and stay on it until it is 100% complete. No matter how much you feel like quitting, push yourself to work until it’s done. By continually setting priorities and concentrating, you develop the habit of high performance. Once this becomes a habit that you do automatically, you will be guaranteed success.

Re: Great at one thing OR good at everything? Re: Great at one thing OR good at everything? - [quote="babyjoy214":tb4042ja]I heard this from my dad "Jack of All Traits, Master of None"[/quote:tb4042ja] Personally, I see myself as being a good at a lot of my passions, but not "great" enough to earn a living from any of them. I feel that our society favors those who specialize and pigeon hole themselves into one thing. In fact, I don't think you can even get a high paying job without spending 6 years studying that one subject in college + post grad studies.
Re: Success Re: Success - I study success intently, and would like to share: Here's two excellent and nearly identical success-formulas from a couple of the world's masters. FIRST FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Clear, Definite Purpose 3. Committed Decision 4. Take Action In Faith (Bonus Secret Sauce: 5. Repeat Consistently) I made a video about this, but am not allowed to link it yet. Google "Ryze Success Steps" for it. Oh, and this is Napoleon Hill's (Master Of Success Laws)'s Formula. SECOND FORMULA: 1. Passionate Desire 2. Understand It Is Already Done (Faith) 3. Relax & Allow It To Unfold (Go about your life calmly) This one is courtesy of Abraham-Hicks (inspiration for the movie The Secret). Hope that helps!
