Do you have a good Mentor for your Business?
There are many reasons why 97% of new business owners will fail over the next 3 years. Among them you have training, marketing, products, commitments from owner and many others. One reason that does not seem to be mention a lot is the mentor. Is your mentor really being a mentor to you and does he/she really care about your success. Let's find out!!
The definition of a mentor is: Serve as a teacher or trusted counselor. Now a teacher is someone that teaches you the steps that you need to know in whatever you are looking to learn. A counselor is a person that is there to listen to you and provide guidance in your time of need.
Now how does this apply to your business? Most people that start a business have little or no experience at all. Your mentor needs to be there to take you step by step throughout the training program and assure your progression is timely and effective, emphasis on effective. You in return, must be willing to learn and follow instruction.
There are 4 stages in anything you start. The first stage is excitement. Any new business owner is extremely excited to start and open a business. That is just normal. If they are not excited at this point, they should not start. The second stage is excited but starting to see the reality of what they have started. What that means is the challenges they expected or not expected are there and they are starting to confront them. The third stage is when a lot of people quit. They realize that either they are not made to be an entrepreneur or they see how hard it is going to be and pull up their sleeves and go in head first. The last stage is when the success starts to arrive. The mentor needs to be there at each stage as a cheerleader and a guide. If they miss a stage the new business owner risk to get discourage and quit.
Having the right mentor can be critical to your success when you open for business. It does not matter if it is an online business, MLM or a restaurant; make sure you have the right mentor so you are not part of a statistic.
