If you are new to being your own boss, this article may not make a lot of sense at first but if you have been an entrepreneur for a while now, this will make total sense, I promise you. Either way, stick around as I will help you understand how powerful having the right mindset for your business can be. So what a leader's mindset should be for your business?

For the purpose of the article, I will talk to you like you are new to being your own boss. As an experience entrepreneur you will be able to relate very easily. If you are just starting your own business or thinking about it, a few things will occur no matter who you are; So it is important that you know this in advance and learn immediately how to handle these difficult situations; Having the right mindset will help you drastically move from one experience to the next (notice I did not say failure) without dwelling on what did not work.

You are new and you are all excited so you don't really need to have the right mindset. You are thinking you will be successful and you will do whatever it takes, right.... Wrong. Most new entrepreneurs goes in with the mindset that it will be easy and usually, it is not their fault because they were told it was going to be easy. Many things can go wrong when you start your own business. Actually more will go wrong at first than right. If you don't understand that it will be very difficult at first and if you don't have the right mindset, you will quit your quest to become an entrepreneur very quickly.

To help you survive the challenges ahead of you, use the S.T.A.T.E. of mind concept. Here's how it goes.

Support: Surround yourself with a great supporting cast. A lot of people will say or may be just think you are crazy for starting your business. Stay away from them.

Trust: You have to be able to trust what you do and learn. Trust the people that have been there and done it before. Don't try to re-invent the wheel.

Accountability: One of the toughest things to do is to hold ourselves accountable. Become self-discipline because no one can hold you accountable in your business but you.

Energy: Learn to provide a vibe of energy in everything that you do. Being able to motivate and inspire others will greatly help you and the people around you looking for leadership.

A leader has the following qualities. He/she is consistent, persistent, hard working, desires to help others, motivates and most of all inspires others to do things they thought they could never do. Do you think a leader with the wrong mindset could achieve this? Obviously not. Learn to understand that this is a marathon, a journey that when you look back on it, you will say what a wonderful ride it was.

Also what you should realize is, no matter what you try and don't succeed with, you should look at it as what it is, something that did not work, not a failure. You will try several ways of doing what you are trying to do before it is successful. You may ask how many more times do I need to try before I quit and the answer is: Just one more time, until you make it, until you are successful.

Re: Politeness! - The Scouts were probably nervous and very uncomfortable doing what they were being made to do, and that is understandable. I put the onus on the leaders to properly coach and encourage the attending Scouts to be properly appreciative towards contributors. I see this instance as a possible failing of the leaders. Perhaps the leaders would benefit from a letter offering friendly feedback? GT :-]
Re: Another Moderator Tip - Hi GT / Trent - great ideas. We run on phpbb3 so if there is a plugin you think we should install I can definitely look into it. It's also based on a MYSQL database so we can run queries against it (like we do for the recent forum posts, contest leaders, and all-time leaders across the top). If you can think of a report we can generate that would help then I can also look into it!
Re: Does birth order influence the desire to start a business? - Hi Kevin, I can't really say if birth order has anything to do with having more of a business mindset and taking risks. As for my situation, I have a sister who is three years older than me. I've always wanted to start my own business and work from home ever since I was in high school. My sister on the other hand got a four year degree and now works as a graphic design artist. I've mentioned to her on several occasions about doing freelance work and starting a side business. She just shrugs it off and says she doesn't have time to do something like that. It's a pitty because I know she would excel if she had the type of mindset that I have. She does great at her job and would do great as a freelancer.
Forum Issue? - The "recent forum posts" block at the top of the page is blank. Anyone else seeing that? It was working when I first got here a few minutes ago but now it's just a big white empty space. I've tried refreshing and going to different topics to see if it comes back but it hasn't yet. The other 3 blocks are fine... contest leaders, all-time leaders, and moderators.
Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Sites don't become leaders in their field because of advanced SEO tactics, hey become leaders because they serve their audience the best. A great product (i.e a great site) is a very powerful marketing tool and makes all your other marketing efforts a lot more effective.
