For 15 years I was a professional therapist andI ran my own private practice very successfully. I suppose you could argue too successfully, because this was the main reason behind me moving into internet marketing. You see I was trading time for $$ and although I was earning lots of $$ I had no time to enjoy it. It’s a crazy situation where you have the money but no time to enjoy it. So, I learned to work smarter not harder and came to online marketing.

Now, you must understand something that is crucial to this story – and that is that I loved being a therapist and was very very good at it BUT if anyone had said to me WHY did I love it so much I would have struggled to give the answer. I knew I was good at it because I never needed to advertise and I had more clients than I could really cope with and everyday I was so happy to get to work. But, the core reason for doing what I do I could not articulate because ‘just being able to help people’ did not feel adequate.

Now, moving into internet marketing was a new challenge and yet again one I loved and still do love but if someone where to say to me WHY did I love this so much I would be able to answer. I loved the challenge of learning new skills, I loved being able to share these skills with others, I loved being able to use leverage to work smarter not harder and I loved having the time. I could explain and qualify WHY I loved my work. Again, I had found success.

Now fast forward to today, December 7th 2010. I was sitting working as I usually do and my phone rang. It was a lady I did not know and she was asking me if I was still a therapist because she wanted a Reiki treatment. I rarely do treatments these days and cannot remember the last time I did Reiki, but something made me say ok and I agreed to see her this evening – again a departure from my usual routine of giving someone an appointment a few days hence. So, when she arrived I did the consultation then settled her into the treatment and away we went.

But…..

After a few minutes……

Something amazing happened……..

You see by giving this treatment and by losing 'myself' into the energy of the treatment I actually became aware of 'why', why I do what I do

My 'WHY' is to enable others to rediscover who they truly are so that they can become what they truly deserve to be. By giving a treatment to someone I am not really doing anything – well that’s not quite correct but stick with me on this.

You see what I am doing is creating and holding the space for that person to process and clear their 'stuff'. They do this purely as a passive activity with their subconscious mind whilst their conscious mind is quietened and stilled. In fact the treatment is not the important part for the client (although it does a damn good job at stopping the chatter of the conscious mind), it is the creation of that time and space to clear and sort that is the most important part. This is why I also worked successfully with people with Feng Shui and dowsing because they all do the same thing deep down. This is why I never had to look for clients because subconsciously they were drawn to me.

It was by working very deeply on a physical/emotional/energetic level with my client tonight that allowed me to reconnect with my own purpose and why.

As I said earlier I can articulate why I love my internet marketing work so much easier but the core 'why' is exactly the same. Working with 'real' people is just like working with people over the internet where we provide mentoring and support and help with personal development.

I know from my own experience how vitally important it is to make that time for ourselves to discover who we are and why we are here I also know that very few people understand the importance of this and very few actually do it.

I also know that the ones who do this well are the 1% who succeed like no others because they have the clarity and vision to see exactly where they are going and why they are going there. These people act like a light attracting moths because they not only have what others want they have the secret to getting there and that is one of the most valuable skills you can ever have.

Re: How do you maximize your time at business/networking events? Re: How do you maximize your time at business/networking events? - Hy Kevin. I think everyone is focused on those persons who can help business to grow but i consider it necessary to constantly meet new people and make new connections. Knowing more people, means more exposure for your business and you never know when you will need their services.
Affiilate Products Affiilate Products - Knowing what you are trying to sell would be helpful. What sort of promotion have you tried -- in detail? I wouldn't jump into a big expensive ad. If the things you are doing isn't working on a smaller scale, they probably won't work on a big high dollar scale either. Why not give us your website address and we can take a look. There is plenty of money to be made in affiliate marketing, but it takes time, it takes trial and error and you have to evaluate what you're doing and make the needed changes to have an effective program. Re: Does it help to join business groups? Re: Does it help to join business groups? - Different groups can have a very different feel to them, so it's good to try out several. I was in a lunch group for a while that was very formal, and a bit expensive as you had to purchase the event ticket and the lunch. It was a small group, and they knew each other well. They were nice people, but there was really no opportunity for us to help each other -- more of a social thing really. I've also done chamber of commerce, or women's entrepreneur events. I always have a good time, but I haven't found many business leads that way -- most of the newer entrepreneurs often don't have the financial resources to hire others (at first anyway). I did get one big job back when I was a freelance writer from one of these events, however. I've met more clients through regular socializing surprisingly! Knowing a person through friends can make others feel more comfortable it seems.
Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategies Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategies - [quote="christew":latsmlgi]Plus a niche is not a bunch of keywords, it is a demographic interested in a particular topic. You need to learn about the people in this demographic. Keyword research tells you their search habits and gives clues to competitiveness and potential profit, but you are looking at through a very narrow window of a much bigger picture.[/quote:latsmlgi] Good point. Knowing about both the group and the keywords they tend to use is of course the best combination, but if you thoroughly understand your niche market and your products, the content you write for your website and the articles you post elsewhere will almost certainly include natural "keyword phrases" even if you don't research the keywords - and if your niche is tightly defined, that will probably suffice. I am not saying you should ignore keyword research, but knowing your products and market is more important.
Starting a New Business Starting a New Business - Congratulations on the first step of deciding to create your own business. First, you have to ascertain if you are going to be selling your products or services to people or to businesses. People purchase products and services for three basic reasons: •To satisfy basic needs •To solve problems •To make themselves feel good. You have to determine which of these three categories your product or service is the solution to. Businesses, unlike individuals, buy products and services for three reasons as well: •To increase revenues •To maintain the status quo •To decrease expenses. Knowing the reasons why people/businesses buy, you should have a picture emerging of who you think your "Target Market" (or ideal customer) is. Once you have zeroed in on your solution, you are ready to create your Marketing Strategy. If you look at any company that has grown rapidly over the past few years, (i.e. WestJet and Starbucks), it should demonstrate to you the importance of Marketing. In simple terms these companies have: •Clearly defined what makes them different; •Who their ideal customer is; •How to reach them; •Why customers should buy from them; •And most importantly why customers should come back again. It is strong Marketing Awareness that singles out the best companies. I can not stress enough how important it is to create a "living" Marketing Plan before you even start. I hope this helps a little in the creation of your plan. All the very best of luck. Remember: "A Goal without a Plan is just a Wish" Miles of Smiles, Marketing Maven
