The higher the site appears in the search results the more clicks or visitors this site will receive from the search engine. SEO targets various types of searches including video, image search, text and local searches.

Optimizing a website for SEO benefits basically involves editing its content and HTML to increase its relevance to specific keywords and get rid of any barriers that may be in the way of the indexing activities of search engines.

These 5 steps will work to benefit you in maximising your website search engine ranking.

Step 1. Keyword Selection

• Keywords are very important to your SEO campaign
• Try to use your keywords in your main text and also in your content spread
• Spread the keywords out; don't use them all on your homepage.
• Use keywords sparingly. Try to use the keywords once per 100 words.

Step 2. The use of Tags

• Use keywords in your Title tags
• Optimise your pages title tags, meta keyword and meta description tags
• Spread these tags through your pages and make these tags relevant to your page
• DO NOT SPAM - search engines hate spam!

Step 3. Emphasized text

• Emphasize your Keyterms (Bold, Italicized, H1,H2 etc)
• Search Engines recognise what you emphasize to consider them for optimization
• Don't go overboard or it will be seen as spam by the search engines (and can be annoying to readers)

Step 4. Social Media

• Search Engines love Social Media!
• Get involved, create a fan base, add value to the community, get backlinks
• Become active, social media is obviously for social purposes and can be a lot of fun
• If used correctly, the search engine benefits are huge

Step 5. Sales Funnel

• After the efforts put toward SEO make your website clear and easy to use
• Be sure to have a clear call to action
• Optimise your website for conversion

These steps will ensure you receive more valuable organic rankings. It is an easy process for all marketers who are searching to increase their website traffic. Besides the use of Search Engine Optimisers (which can be costly) and black hat SEO (which are generally degrading to the search engines and removed when exposed) these steps will be of the most assistance to your search engine ranking.

The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for. The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay. One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content? Re: How to Promote Your Business Online - Apart from using Search Engine Optimization or SEO for promoting websites, I also find Pay per Clicks (PPC) to be a very good way to do. Why? For me it doesn't open only one oppurtunity for you, in fact it opens 2! You can generate your awaited traffic even w/o saying stop, ready and go and gain a maximized profit too.
