Most people when searching for goods or services on the internet use search engines such as yahoo, Google etc. For your web page to appear on the first page of these search engines should be your goal. The higher your page comes up in these search engine results the more traffic is directed to your website. This is search engine optimization.
To increase your search engine ranking you need to concentrate on the following areas;
Keywords and Website Content -
Search engines will generally list sites that have quality content over ones that are full of graphics and pictures. Offer quality content and the customer will continue to come back. The same applies to search engines. Keywords in your text are extremely important as these are what potential customers will be typing in to the search engines to find websites relating to their interests. Your keywords should make up between 1-3% of your total article. Don't overdo it as the search engines may dismiss your article as spam.
Title Bars -
The coloured bar at the top of your page is the title bar. Examine your homepage title bar and make sure it includes the most important keywords as well as your company name. This will increase your search engine ranking. Click on all of your links and check out all the title bars making sure each link contains the most important keywords taken from that page itself.
Links -
This point is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. The link popularity of your site will rank your website with the search engines. It is based on the number of quality websites you have linked to and from your website. One way to check the popularity of your website is to do a free link popularity check. This is where the search engine will show you what sites are linked to yours. If your website is showing a low search engine ranking then consider running a link building campaign. By contacting other websites and requesting they exchange links with your site. Linking to popular sites will not only boost your search engine ranking but drive more traffic to your site.
Maximising your search engine rankings are hugely important in running a successful internet campaign. Take up some or all of these tips and see if you can boost your rankings by yourself. Don't forget the higher the search engine ranking the more potential traffic to your site.
HTML And Meta Tags -
For search engines to be able to read your text it must be in HTML format not graphic format which means you can click on the text and open up a link. To check this, click on a word and see if it highlights. If it does you are ok, if not, change the format to HTML. This is just another way to increase your search engine ranking.
To see if your site page is set up with meta tags you need to access the code. This is done by clicking the 'view' button on the menu bar and selecting 'source'. A window will appear revealing an underlying code. If it is a meta tag it will read something like: meta name='keywords' content=. If this code does not exist then set about putting them.
In summary, for you to drive traffic to your website, you need to be seen. And the best way to do that is to maximise your search engine ranking. I am sure the techniques I have shown you will assist you greatly towards you achieving your goal.

On the top right corner, use 'Advanced Search' and write 'Search Engine Tips'. It brings up all the previous posts with that information.
