Defeat can only lead to success if you learn and take action

Everyone suffers from defeat now and again, but it is what you do or think when you are defeated that makes the difference. There are those of us, who when defeated simply walk away and vow never to try that again, or become involved in such activities again. This is true of most network marketers or business owners who start out very positive wanting to achieve a dream to work for themselves, and when the going gets difficult, they simply give in too easily and walk away. Statistics have shown that 97% of New Businesses fail within their first 3 - 5 years of starting up.

Regardless of whether you have a business or not, where conditions arise which may lead to defeat, here are some worthwhile lessons we could all take away in how to make that defeat a victory and turn it around into something positive.

If you look back in time at some very famous people, Thomas Edison for example, how many times did he try to get the light bulb to light up? It took him over a thousand attempts, did he give up? Well proof today is he did not. Instead, he learned from each attempt, and in doing so he changed what he did next.

Take Donald Trump, it took him many years to build up his empire, but did you know he lost it all more than once, but did he just walk away from it all? Today Donald Trump is a billionaire worth more than $2billion dollars. He didn't just accept defeat he looked at what lessons he could take from it and when on to take action.

SO what could we learn from these two examples.

* Study your set backs. Looking back and seeing where you went wrong, learning lessons from your set backs is key to moving forward.

* Be your own constructive critic. Look to seek out your weaknesses and faults, note them down and look to how you could correct them. Self development, more understanding of one's self can go a long way to improving your outlook on things.

* Stop blaming others or even luck. Blame stops with yourself, examine and look at why things did not work out the way you wanted them to.

* Blend persistence with experimentation. Keep the focus on your goal, but try new approaches. See things with 'new' eyes.

* Remember there is a good side to every situation. You need to learn to find it and see the good side, and turn your back on discouragement.

Knowing all of the above, it is now in your hands to go out there and turn your life around. Turn your defeat into a victory, learn from your mistakes, but importantly take action.

Re: Best way to start a business? Re: Best way to start a business? - [quote="MichelleJ":w48q2lxt]One can learn a very hard lesson by going into a business with no previous knowledge of how it operates in a particular field and you are leaving yourself wide open to getting your fingers badly burned. It is important to at least have a little bit of knowledge and then find a mentor or teacher who can lead you to success. Doing it all on your own is a recipe to failure. MichelleJ[/quote:w48q2lxt] I jumped in with no prior knowledge and made a success of it. The quickest way to learn is through action. The quickest way to find a mentor is to get involved in the industry and network. I did plenty of researching and learning along the way, but its hard to know what you need to learn until you get started.
Re: Best way to start a business? Re: Best way to start a business? - It really just comes down to decision, action and persistence. You can spend a lifetime thinking about doing something, and researching it, to decide if it is the right action to take. Or you can make a decision about something you want to achieve, take action and be persistent. Make a plan of action, and adjust it as you learn more. An online business is something you should jump into straight away. The time it takes to start a new website is minutes, so there is not much of a barrier to entry for you to start a basic website and learn. Obviously if your idea was more specific like starting a review comparison site for laptops then your action would be trying out and comparing different review platforms, classifying laptops etc. But you would still take action and dive right in. If it was an offline business then it would likely mean even more preparation. Say you wanted to start a wine shop, which would eventually become a chain, you would start by taking action and learning as much about wine as possible, networking with people in the industry and generally working to become a win expert, and research locations for your first wine shop. In each situation you make a decision about what you want to do, act on that decision following a rough plan which you adjust along the way, and be persistent in working to achieve what you laid out in your original decision.
Re: Keyword Phone Tracking - Google PPC Re: Keyword Phone Tracking - Google PPC - Hi Jeff, Thanks for the heads-up. No, I hadn't heard of the company. I understand that the company tracks phone call leads, but does the company also set up a recorded message for the client so that leads will hear the message and have the option of leaving a message? Or is the phone call redirected to the webmaster's business line and either fielded by the website owner, or a member of staff, or a call handling system that the business owner has set up entirely separate from the phone tracking company? What I mean is, is the tracking separate from the action the lead takes, just as with an ad tracker, where the tracker redirects the lead to a target web page while registering the action in the ad tracker control panel? Thanks, David H

Re: How John Chow Makes $40,000/mo from blogging Re: How John Chow Makes $40,000/mo from blogging - My point of view is this... If he is making more money than me then I can probably learn something from him. If he has more traffic than me I can probably learn something. If he can build a strong community of tens of thousands of loyal followers then I can probably learn something from him. If he's managed to do something I've yet to do or haven't had success with then I can probably learn something from him. etc. I agree he's not the best source of info on marketing, and he pushes aff. stuff heavily, but just the fact he does this tells you there's something to learn from him. I try and be a more open minded and open ears sort of guy.
