How To Read A Book -and Get The Most Out Of It.

Have you ever been confronted with a problem or an issue and wondered if there is a book out there that can help solve the situation. Are you a student studying for an exam and want to know how to get the most out of your study program, this article may be of some use. For many who want to read for self development to help change their mind set or maybe as a way to improve their home business, or online business techniques these steps are key.

Abraham Lincoln when reading a book always took time out to reflect on what he had just taken in, he tried to assimilate the information to his current situation.

There are four key steps to follow when reading a book, these are as follows:

1. First Reading - for General Content. This should be a fast read through of the book or what it is you are studying. When you are going through highlight important words and phrases that stand out to you. You may also want to make notes in the margin of ideas that flash through your mind on this first read.

2. Second Reading - Read for Emphasis. On the second reading you should not take time to reflect on each chapter that you go through. Try to assimilate what you have learnt into your every day life. Try to apply what you have taken in and put it into action. It is no good reading if you are not willing to take action on what you have learnt.

3. Third Reading - Read For The Future. This more of a memory feat that reading through the book again. It is your opportunity to mesmerise important paragraphs or sayings that you have come across that are meaningful to you. Write them down so that you will remember them. When you write them down you are etching this in your thoughts.

4. Fourth Read - Read later. To refresh your memory and to rekindle your passion. Sometimes, we become discouraged through whatever reason and it is at those times that we should take the opportunity to raise our self esteem and go over the books that inspired you in the first place.

Just by following these four simple steps will help you get the most out of reading a book. It is important to know what you want to get out of the book before hand, as this will help you identify it when you find it or read about it. If you really want to assimilate what you have read about into your life you need to work at it. Reflect at what you have just read, and gauge how meaningful it is to you.

Re: Looking for a Blog topic? Re: Looking for a Blog topic? - Great advice GT. This and every other quality forum, every book you read, every article or website can be a source for your own writing. Find a topic, blog about it and LINK BACK to the source (or acknowledge the author if it is a book - or add an Amazon link). Every time you link out a good site you are giving your readers value. Don't worry about losing traffic or getting/not getting back-links. Just DO IT! It will make your blog much more informative and therefore more valuable and more attractive. The best blogs always have tons of links heading out to whatever good stuff the blogger finds. Read, learn, write, link. Read, learn... etc.

Re: Don’t worry, Enrich your life and Be happy Re: Don’t worry, Enrich your life and Be happy - [quote="lisa":1rc4ik2q]Start saying positive things especially about yourself. How you communicate to yourself affects your thinking and your emotions, as well as your self-esteem.Change your mental pictures. What and how you see yourself and your surroundings make a difference to your thinking.Read more. Read about how those people who fought fear with courage and succeeded in life. Through reading, you will gain new knowledge and understanding and it will help you clear whatever is blocking your thinking and create more ideas. [/quote:1rc4ik2q] Lisa is right about this. Positive self talk can really make a difference. When you catch yourself saying something negative (whether verbally or just thinking it), turn it around and make it into the opposite. You have to remember to do this continually until it's just habit that the positive thought/saying becomes the first thing you hear instead of the second. It becomes automatic.
