How to Develop the Skill of Grace Under Pressure

"When you find yourself in a stressful situation (i.e., a closing that is coming up, an especially important negotiation) you may discover that your normal cool is replaced with panic. With practice, you can learn to handle these situations with grace. Here are some points to consider.

Step back and see the big picture.

This is where it is important to have a vision, a clear goal in your mind to help you focus. Have you thought about where you want to be in 5 years or 10 years time, your life of the future?

What would it be like, who would be in your life, where would you be living, who with? Would you have more than one home? What kind of lifestyle do you envisage for yourself.

Break down the vision into smaller more achievable targets to help you move towards the main goal along the way. You now see where you want to be, so the next step is to plan how you will get there. Plot each stage out writing it down, or recording it if necessary. Make yourself accountable for each stage.

Review your goal.

Hannah More wrote, "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal."...

It is important to constantly review your goals, therefore important to write them down and be clear when you wish to achieve them and the how. Sometimes circumstances change, we may achieve out goals earlier than expected, or we may be a long way off.

If we constantly review, we can keep those goals realistic and in sight, in reach of being achieved.

If you are wildly off reaching your goal, look at it again. Was it unrealistic in the first place? Could it be broken down further? What actions are needed to help move you towards this particular area / goal?

Give yourself a pep talk

Realize that stress is caused by fear. Fear is not a thing. It's just a thought... Once you get the thought out of your head the fear goes..

Jim Rohn has said that the most important conversation you can have is with yourself. So it is important you LISTEN to what you are telling yourself.

If you tell yourself, I can't do this, I am hopeless at it, then yourself will listen and hear this, and in effect you have conditioned yourself to fail.

However, talk yourself into GREATNESS, CONFIDENCE, ACHIEVING. You will see a difference and so will others around you.

Do it now.

Develop the habit of doing what you need to do when the thought comes to you, it is mostly at this point that you feel brave enough to be taking action, which will inevitably lead you in the right direction of achieving your goals and targets.

I hope this has been useful to you, I have found it to be very useful to me, when I get stuck, frustrated and not completing something when I know I should have, or even if I have sensed that I have lost my direction and focus on what it is I wish to ultimately achieve.

Working with Suppliers Working with Suppliers - Hi Mary, You're facing a very common issue for entrepreneurs. 2 suggestions I have for you: 1) Develop a personal relationship. Get to know your potential suppliers and meet with them face to face. If it's a meeting you set up or you find them at a tradeshow, etc get to know the people and they're much more likely to cut you a break. People want to work with people they know and like. 2) Have you considered smaller, local suppliers who see your business as more important?
