Solving Worrying Problems in Times of Adversity
Many of us when faced with adversity somehow find a way to get through it, and it is only then that we discover our inner strengths. Have you ever found yourself in a desperate situation wondering "how on earth" are you going to get through this, or out of this? Somehow, your thought patterns go into overdrive to trying to find a solution to the situation. As a consequence you may suffer from sleepless nights, feeling agitated, short tempered, and nonchalant. Your brain is probably working overtime processing over a billion thoughts in your head as you try to get some sleep.
It is at times like these that it is best to try to take a step back from the situation. Take stock of where you are, and why or how you came to be in this situation. By analysing your current situation and understanding how you got there is the key.
Sometimes we seem to be in over our heads and are unable to see the "woods for the trees," because we are unable to step away from the situation and look at it in further detail. It is important for you to put things on paper; somehow, it seems clearer when it is in 'ink' in front of you.
Having something on paper allows you to see the problems or issues clearly. It allows you to begin to put together a plan of action. Make sure your plan is 'doable' and has a timescale against it. Break it down if you have to. Small manageable actions are far easier to achieve and will give a sense of satisfaction that you are getting somewhere.
Make yourself accountable for your actions; start putting your thoughts out there, telling friends, family what your actions are going to be, by doing this you are making yourself accountable. Your friends will be watching to see if you carry out your actions, and will be a reminder to you so that you actually see this through.
Do not procrastinate and end up not doing anything. Far too often people procrastinate too long about a situation, knowing what they have to do to solve the situation, but not following through. Following through or taking action is key to resolving any situation. We all know this, but very few of us are brave enough or direct enough to do something there and then. The 'doers' go out there and seem to get to where they are going to.
So go on, go out there and be a 'doer'.
