What's your New Year Resolution? 5 Steps To Help You Achieve it
Another year has gone by, farewell 2009!
It is now the start of a new decade, 2010. What promises, goals or dreams have you set yourself and are you ready to achieve them unequivocally. To many of us, the New Year brings forward new beginnings.
We start out with the best of intentions to keep to our resolutions, but ultimately something happens to make us go off track, whenever 'life' throws challenges our way, our goals tend to take a back seat, and sometimes they don't get off that back seat.
5 Simple Steps to Not Break Your New Year Resolutions
So, how can we ensure that any New Year resolutions we make for 2010, we are able to stick to and achieve?
Step One: - Whether your resolutions are to lose weight, earn additional income, change jobs, or start a new venture, the first step is to write them down.
Many of us make the mistake of just verbalising our New Year Resolution, rather than writing it down. Before we know it, it is forgotten. Just useless words, nothing more, nothing less.
Step Two: - Put a Timescale to your resolution. The top mistake many of us make is not putting a timescale against our goals or resolutions. When will you be achieving this, be realistic about your timescales. More often than not, unrealistic timescales are another reason for giving up on a resolution or goal.
Step Three: - Break down your resolution into small steps to help you towards achieving the bigger goal. You will feel much better when you see yourself achieving your smaller goals, knowing that you are working towards your bigger goal.
Step Four:- Visualise your goals / resolutions. Play a video in your head on how you will feel when you achieve them. Take time to visualise your goals daily, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This is to ensure that your goals / resolutions are with you in your conscious and subconscious mind at all times. That way when life does throw you a curve ball, your goals or resolutions are so embedded within your thoughts you will be able to come back on track without too much difficulty.
Step Five: Take Action, is key to achieving and sticking to your goals or resolution. We start of with good intentions to taking action, but after a short while the action deteriorates and the goal goes out of the window. Make yourself accountable let others now what your goals or resolutions are. When you make yourself accountable then others will help you keep on track.
So whilst I hope the five steps outlined above help you stick to this years resolutions, you ought to take control and have the life others may envy and treat working towards your resolutions or goals like playing your favourite sport.
