Ways of Increasing Traffic

Even the most novice internet user knows that websites are hard pressed to make a profit if no one is visiting their site. Online businesses thrive on advertising and general sales to bring in revenue. All of that is contingent on people coming to see their site. Therefore it is of the utmost importance to find out exactly how one goes about increasing traffic. Internet marketing is an excellent device used for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is to increase traffic. Promote your site on social media outlets like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Better yet, make your way to a social bookmarking site where you can publish lists and provide links of your favorite sites. Fellow users are then encouraged to visit the site and give their feedback as to whether or not they agree regarding its quality. If a lot of people on these social bookmarking sites, such as Digg and reddit, like your site you are all but guaranteed an increase in traffic.

Develop an understanding regarding the specific needs of your target audience. In order to do so you can interact with them by creating online forums, writing a blog complete with comment forms or hosting live chats on your site. Once you know what your audience desires you will be better equipped to address those issues and, in turn, will field a steady rise in traffic.

Be sure your site contains first-rate content. Write about things you know and love. You must also be prepared however to deal with SEO factors. SEO stands for search engine optimization and occurs when your site contains a fair amount of keywords. In a nutshell, if your site contains words or phrases that are popular in search engine quests, then your website will go near the top of the list on a search engine results page. Some search engines allow your ranking to rise if you agree to pay for your submission. Regardless of their policies, you should also understand that it might be beneficial to submit your site multiple times as the SEO rules tend to change quickly.

StatCounter is a first-rate tracking tool which allows you to examine the source of your traffic (including search engine results with keyword queries, attached links in emails, etc.) as well as the location of your audience. As a result you can alter your content to better fit the needs of your customers and ensure an increase in traffic.

Re: What are your May Goals? Re: What are your May Goals? - Thanks Evan! I just changed one of my business goals from setting up a video site on Traffic-Geyser to: "Set up a newsletter email series (let's say 10 messages) on Get Response..." I reviewed Traffic Geyser in the latest episode of "David's Den" on my blog (see sig file), included an excellent video review of Traffic Geyser by John Detlif and decided against taking that particular project any further. Still lots to get done!
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - LOL, I spoke too soon. Within a few hours of my post, Alexa updated the Traffic Rank on the toolbar. Note however that the 3 month Traffic Rank on Alexa.com has still not been updated...

Re: I'm A Winner!! Re: I'm A Winner!! - Thanks Tami and Ideasuniversity! Traffic is up. Forums are good places to get your message out. I also do quite a lot of article marketing and blogging etc. Still a long way to go, though, on every front!
Re: Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? Re: Who Said Twitter Doesn't Work...? - Hi Trent, I'd have to agree. I never intended to get deep into Twitter and rarely ever get on. Traffic is very minimal as you said, and I doubt that I'll ever make money with it unless I start getting paid to Tweet, and even then I'm not sure if that's worth it. Haven't looked into that yet, but it's definitely not even close to my main method of marketing for my business.
