6 Tips on how to be more productive when working from home
We have all heard the saying that "there are not enough hours in the day". However the reality is that the main reason why people don't get their work done is because they are not as productive as they could be. In other words they don't manage their time properly.
If you are working from home running a home based business it is particularly important to be as efficient and productive with your time as you can as this will ultimately determine how successful your business will become.
Here are some tips on how to achieve maximum productivity and success when you work from home.
1: Eat a healthy breakfast
Eating a good healthy breakfast is important as it will help to boost your energy levels and help to create an active mind. Some people claim that they don't have enough time for breakfast but this is merely an excuse. How long does it take to pour some cereal and milk into a bowl or to boil an egg? It only takes a few minutes and the benefits it provides will prove more than worthwhile.
2: Be in a happy mood
Try to start each day as you mean to go on by being in a happy mood. If you start your day happy and energetic you are more likely to remain that way all day. Try to ensure that you rid yourself of any outside or personal issues that may affect your concentration whilst working otherwise they will simply distract you and slow you down. Allowing outside issues or arguments to linger will have a big bearing on you. So the quicker that you resolve them the more productive you will become. It will also make you feel much happier and a happy person is a productive person.
3: Structure your day
It is important when you start a business from home that you structure your day in much the same way that you would when working for an employer. It is crucial to prioritise your work to ensure that you finish your day at a set time. It can be all too easy when being your own boss to either not work enough hours or to work too many hours. You need to ensure that you set yourself realistic working hours and that you are productive within those hours.
4: Don't multitask
It is claimed that multitasking lowers your IQ more than smoking marijuana! This is because when you multitask you are actually still doing one thing at a time rather than two things at once because you are constantly switching from one task to another. By doing this you are less productive and therefore less efficient. It is better to focus on one task at a time.
5: Remove any distractions
When working in a home based businessit can be more difficult to stay focused on your work especially if there are any unwanted distractions to distract or interrupt you.
If anyone is distracting you ask them to stop and to go somewhere else whilst you work.
If you need to use a computer particularly if you have an internet home based business, then it is advisable to turn off anything that might distract you such as your E Mail or any social networking sites such as face book, my space and twitter. You can always check and update these at a more convenient time. The same applies to your mobile phone.
You should also ask your family and friends not to call you during your working hours as before you know it you might have lost track of time and spent an hour chatting on the phone.
6: Take regular breaks
There can be a genuine danger of working too hard when running a business from home. It can be all too easy to continue to work throughout the day without taking any breaks. It is important to ensure that you take regular breaks away from your desk. You could also refresh yourself by taking a walk and getting some fresh air which will help to improve your concentration for when you return to your desk and make you feel good. Exercise is also good for morale.
All in all if you manage to discipline yourself by using the above methods then you should ensure that working from home will be a pleasant and fulfilling career which will enable you to create a better work/life balance and bring with it much prosperity.
