As with a bricks and mortar business an internet based business will fail without having any customers. The quickest and most effective way to attract customers for an internet based business is by building a list.

The internet provides many powerful ways to build your list including the following:

Offer something for free

One of the best ways to attract new customers is to offer an item or guide for free via an opt in box on your website. You could either write an e book offering advice on something e.g. how to make money from home or you could send or offer a free download of a DVD providing useful information on how to do something within your niche market. The prospect would then fill in their details which would become part of your list of potential customers. It is wise to remember that it is not about how much the free product costs you but more about how much it can make for you.

Questionnaires or surveys

Another effective way to build your list is by asking people to complete a questionnaire or survey. This can be especially effective for a direct marketing business or a business such as a restaurant that can use this information for future promotions.

Joint ventures

Joint ventures involve requesting partnering up with another successful individual for mutual benefit. For example using another person's list to sell your products. Joint ventures are very effective in helping to create more traffic for your website and obtaining bigger lists to attract more customers for your business.

Social networking sites

Social networking sites offer one of the most powerful ways to attract customers and to build your list. The best way to achieve this is to grow followers by joining groups with a similar niche. If you follow people they are likely to follow you back. The more they get to know you the quicker you will build up that all important trust with them that will eventually lead to sales. Again you could send them a "thank you for following me "message which in turn could direct them to your opt in page offering them a free item in return for them providing their details. You could also provide a video opt in box for bigger results.

It is important to always provide good value for your followers by ensuring that you give a good mixture of jokes, questions and content. This will ensure that they will stay following you which will result in them purchasing from you in the future.

Recommend a friend

You could also grow your list quicker by offering a free gift if a person recommends a friend to opt in to your list.

All in all the quickest and most effective way of building your list is to build the biggest network in the fastest time on the most platforms that you can. The bigger the list the more access you have to customers, suppliers and new products. Once you have built your list it is then important to ensure that you build up credibility within your list as this will result in them wanting to stay on your list and buy from you rather than your competitors.

Without a list your business will surely fail.
