Working mums can have the best of both worlds

Here are some business ideas which allow women to be able to continue working flexible hours based around their family needs hence reducing any feeling of guilt.

Working mums can have the best of both worlds

Can women who become mums really have it all? Sometimes it would appear that they cannot win no matter what they do.

If they stay at home some new mums feel cut off from the outside world and suddenly feel as though they have become boring and out of touch with other working mums. Personally having watched my wife when she became a stay at home mum coping with a new and very demanding role I had nothing but admiration for her. I marvelled at the way in which she multitasked doing all the household chores whilst still finding time to spend important time playing with the children and still managing to get meals on the table at the appropriate time.

However some mums, whilst loving their new found role of motherhood, still feel the need to be part of the working world. They would like to balance their life between motherhood and working but feel enormous guilt at feeling this way. Often the guilt and the thought of both the cost and having to contemplate leaving their new bundle of joy in childcare often deters them from making the break leaving them feeling isolated and unfulfilled.

There is however a practical solution to this problem which can create a healthy balance between family and working life, namely to work from home.

Today's technology offers many opportunities to work from home. There isn't any real start up time and minimal costs. All that is needed is a computer, broadband and a telephone line. You often don't need to create a product or a business plan. You merely need to find a reputable company, one that you can trust, which offers a product or service that you believe in and would be able to sell to others.

Direct selling companies in particular can offer huge business opportunities. These companies are expanding rapidly as they offer the opportunity to be rewarded fully for your own efforts while at the same time offering you the freedom to dictate your own hours based around your own needs. This in turn will free up the most valuable commodity of all... time.

Working from home is also the ultimate equal opportunity solution. Anyone can succeed equally men or women providing that they invest the same time and effort and have the passion to succeed.

It is surprising the extra time that can be created simply by not having to commute daily to work. There is also no longer the costly day-care for the children. Mums working from home, or "mumpreneurs" as they are now often referred to, particularly enjoy the freedom of time especially when they can choose a child's school play over an afternoon meeting. They can also choose to become more actively involved with school activities such as school trips. Working from home can give the ultimate control over life because you have control over your time.

Working from home need not be a lonely experience. Your office could easily be a coffee shop, the park or indeed anywhere provided that you have your laptop and mobile phone available. It is also possible to communicate with likeminded people on the internet which can help to create a social aspect to having a home based business.

Another huge advantage to being home based, especially for new mums who may have been kept awake all night is that they can have a lie in as there isn't the worry of being late for work. All they need to do is to be disciplined to make the necessary hours up later in the day.

There is no doubt that today's world offers women greater opportunities to successfully balance a family and working life without having the guilt factor. Setting up a home based business enables many women to create an income based around their family commitments. Provided that women have the right mindset that will enable them to ignore negativity and doubt and concentrate instead on the opportunity. It is possible for women in business to succeed and still be a good mum and wife. Indeed in today's world it is possible for women to have it all!

Working for yourself means you are investing in your own future, not someone else's, although there is value in working for someone else first to gain experience and confidence. Working for yourself does not automatically mean success, fame and fortune. For most entrepreneurs, it takes much work and dedication to get to the point of financial success and comfort - sometimes years. But the benefit is, again, you know you are investing in yourself and building equity for your own future. GT :-]
Re: How can we add better content to the forums? - Hi Kevin, If you mean what GT mentioned, then I think that would be great for the forum. Of course, as others have said, this would most likely invite a lot more spammers. You can't have the best of both worlds, though.

Entrepreneurs come up with "The Big Idea" - I just drop by and felt urge to say, that not only should you look for problems, but for solutions on problems that even doesn't exist yet. If you look for existing problems, then you might end up with the worlds best solution to a problem that may soon be outdated because of general development. So, don’t be one step ahead, but at least two.
