Are You Sitting In Your Skivvy’s?

I don't know why but I just thought of all the different people all over the world that work from home and thought could this really be possible? Now before we really get into this topic I would like to build a good foundation on the benefits on working from home because this will definitely be a doozy of an article and the comments it brings. Many people have begun the adventure of working from home but why?

The Commute Now Involves Only the Coffee Pot

Just like many people all over the world, they used to drive 30-45 minutes a day to get to work. Depending on where you are in the world has a major impact on this; for example if you live in Chicago or New York your commute time is closer to the 45 minutes. Living in a small town like St.Joseph you may average 10-15 minutes or less. Working from home means your commute involves getting up and heading to the coffee pot and then to your computer.

No More Missing Out On Family Time

I had been, you may still be or you know someone that their work had become their life. With the way the economy is today and has been for awhile, the pressures of working more are at an alarming rate. Many parents have to spend more time at work to sustain this mystical thing called "job security". Working 70+ hours a week is not good on the individual or the family that he or she is part of. Working from home gives you more flexibility to enjoy your family.

You Are "The Man" or "The Woman"

We have all been there, the boss is breathing down your neck for some report you have got to get to them. Here is the problem though, you were educated on this request two days ago and it is a report that contains graphs, pie charts and has to be 5000 pages and 20 testimonials. There are times that you are asked to do the impossible and just are expected to miraculously get the job done. There are times that no matter what you do, the boss is never happy and just expects more and more. Working from home means you don't have to fulfill other people's expectations or meet their deadlines that the corporate world is known for.

Make Your Own Bank Roll

When you work from home you determine the profit you are going to make from your products or services. Any profits you make YOU get to decide on whether to reinvest in your business, save it or spend it. When you are an employee you are making someone else big profits and lining their pockets.

Work When You Want

This is one of the best perks I love about working from home. I get to work when I want and how long I want, I can take a coffee break when I want, and take a long lunch or whatever I feel like. I used to work 70+ hours a week, most weekends and almost every holiday since I was a retail manager. Many employers have a strict working schedule laid out for their employees and if you cannot follow their schedule you will find disciplinary actions quickly follow. When you work from home the time constraints that you have are normally the ones that you put upon yourself.

Just Write It Off

The tax benefits of having your own home business are really quite outstanding. Many times when you turn a room into an office you can claim a portion of this as a deduction on your taxes. While I am no tax expert and I suggest asking a professional when it comes to deductions, I know that I am able to deduct expenses like:

Software

Books

Subscriptions

Phone

Insurance

Travel expenses that are business related

Stress - What is Stress?

The majority of people in their jobs or careers feel so stresses out and in today's world stress has increased dramatically. Stress as we all know it causes you to feel sick which leads to lost days at work in turn leads to more stress because you are still expected to get everything done. Stress is not good for anyone as it leads to high blood pressure and heart attacks. When you work from home, your stress level is reduced to the point that you forget what stress from a job really feels like.

Save Tons of Money on New Clothes

Finally, I am bringing up the reason for this article, saving the best for last. The question arose "Are you in your skivvy's". I thought of this question for a couple different reasons:

Freedom - you have the freedom and ability to build your online business from the comfort of your own home. You can wear what you want around the house, whatever makes you comfortable. You may still be comfortable in running your home business in a nice pair of slacks, shirt and a tie or maybe shorts, flip flops and a T-shirt.

Saving Money- I know when I was in retail management I had to look sharp and very presentable. Perception was a reality. I had to wear nice slacks, shirt and a tie and sometimes a sport jacket, and on an occasion I had suit I had to wear. Over the years I have accumulated 30+ ties, 5-6 different pairs of dress shoes and a few suits and I have spent thousands of dollars on all of it. Maybe you are working somewhere now that you had to pay for your uniforms or even a monthly fee for dry cleaning your uniforms.

So with people having the complete freedom around the house, I had to wonder "Are you sitting in your skivvy's?" Are you sitting at home driving your business in your skivvy's?

Roughly seventeen years ago I began my career into retail, and had been with the same major retailer for the past fourteen years. I can remember starting out and I really had no idea what to expect or to do. To me it was a new company, new people, new rules, new expectations, new everything! How was I going to remember everything and prosper? I quickly learned who the leaders were and began observing and studying their responses to different situations. I have always had a strong internal feeling that I could do more: for other people and for my family. I have found this by joining a team that focuses on helping others obtain their dreams and becoming more in tune what really matters in life, our loved ones around us.

Re: Is A Business Plan A Waste Of Time? Re: Is A Business Plan A Waste Of Time? - I feel that you don't really need one. I didn't write one down when I first started, but I have made various planning and decision-making spreadsheets along the way. I also think that a business plan is a HUGE waste of time IF you never take action. The step that most people fail on is failure to get started. Sitting around and planning won't ever get you anywhere. I would say implementation is more important than planning.
