Building a Business on Article Marketing
When I first got into building a business I was like most others out there, I had no clue what to do! I looked to a friend named Karen Newman for ideas, and I asked her what she was being successful with. Her response was article marketing. I thought to myself, "I am building a business on article marketing?" is this a joke? I then asked her how is writing articles going to help me build my business and she told me to just try it!
I Started Testing
I started learning about keywords, long tail and short tail, Search Engine Optimization, and how to build a good article. I stared writing articles on recent things I had learnt as they were fresh in my mind. I wrote many articles and I started submitting them to EzineArticles which was supposed to be an industry leader. Once these articles were approved I then put them on my blog, you will also want to do it this way. If you put the article on the web first and EzineArticles finds it, they will deny your submission and since EzineArticles has very high page rank you don't want to miss out on this.
If You Are New, Here Are a Few Guidelines
You may have heard many people tell you that building a business on article marketing works. Well, I'm here to tell you it does, think about the following:
If you were a brick and mortar business and you were not using article marketing your building would be like an old shack. Imagine being an old shack out in the middle of a desert, no people around, tumbleweeds rolling across the front, and broken out windows. If you tried to do business in this environment you would be out of business very quickly. Just like any business, if the customers quit showing up you will eventually quit showing up because there would be no business.
On the other hand, if you submit a ton of articles all over the net and insert links in the body to your site you are generating traffic. As you get more traffic to your site you are going to get more customers, which in turn will build your business.
Results vs. Expectations
The biggest problem I see with most people is that they expect immediate results. Just like anything you do it takes time and persistence. I have had a couple people ask me "how many articles do I have to submit?" My answer is "I will let you know." The hilarious thing is I never "let them know." There is no magic number on how many articles you should write. However, there are some tips I will cover in another article in the near future. I have read on forums people complaining that they have not seen any results after writing a couple articles, I say well DUH! They have the wrong attitude and mindset when it comes to article marketing. They need to think stability and long term. Here is a rough idea on what to expect:
- Brand New Site: Be prepared, it could take 4 to 5 months of good, quality articles before you start seeing a significant change in traffic
- Seasoned Site: For the site that has been up for a year or more it could take 2 to 3 months. You will have to be consistent though and provide good quality content.
When you build a business with article marketing it builds a strong foundation and is very reliable. If you are looking for a way to really market your business or service but don't want to spend a lot of money, article marketing is right for you. If you write one article you can submit it out to hundreds of sites, while I do not recommend doing this manually as it would take too much time. If you want to submit to hundreds of sites to get your content out there are few ways to do it properly. I first would recommend submitting manually to a couple very high ranking article submission sites and then feeding through an article submission program.
Here a few guidelines:
- Write an article that has a general topic of your website. If you have a website that sells dog houses than write articles about that. Include the word dog house in your articles.
- Have a good resource box. In your resource box you want a clickable link that goes to your website.
- Don't stop! Keep writing articles, have a goal of 2 or 3 per day. Do this month after month.

I can remember starting out and I really had no idea what to expect or to do. To me it was a new company, new people, new rules, new expectations, new everything! How was I going to remember everything and prosper? I quickly learned who the leaders were and began observing and studying their responses to different situations. I have always had a strong internal feeling that I could do more: for other people and for my family.
