Why Your Marketing May Not Be Working

Are you sitting on the sidelines dabbling in your business and wondering why your marketing may not be working? It would be fair to say that most people feel this way, but most don't do the research to figure out why. You may be an individual that is doing more than just dabbling but still not getting any results. Have you been listening to everyone and find out that they all have a different idea for you to try? Have you bought book after book, course after course, and still are not successful? I am going to give you a few things to think about and then do some soul searching.

Who Is Your Customer?

This is one that everyone should know but many overlook, as a business owner we sometimes try to be something for everyone. While this may sound very tempting at the amount of sales you could produce it actually back fires on you. There is a great saying about this topic "A Jack of all trades and a master of none." If you are wanting to really help people and drive your business focus on a niche. To figure this out use your past experience, what do you have a lot of knowledge and passion for? Can you take this knowledge and passion to market your business to people like yourself?

Offer the Solution

As a business owner I sit and read many of the same ad as you do, they range from vey mundane to wow, I need to read that. One reason why your marketing may not be working is how you promote your business. Headlines catch readers; a prime example is the tabloids in your local grocery store. The individuals that wrote these headlines and write those articles are some of the highest paid copywriters in the world. Now that you have their attention you have to offer the solution. People like to buy products or services but they don't like being sold, this is why the solution is so important. For example, a headline could be like the following if you owned a construction company: "Man Saves Marriage After Spending $3,000 on Bathroom." Then the article or video could go into the many steps and frustrations that affect a married couple that attempt to remodel their bathroom. With you as an owner of a construction company you can tell the story and then add in some pictures of the bathroom, before and after photos of how you can help future couples from this same experience. You are providing a solution to an opportunity they will be faced with.

A Plateau Is Not the Place to Be

In the ever changing environment of the internet you have got to keep learning or you will get destroyed. For example if you have a business that sells car racing parts and built a website online 5 years ago with only a few pictures, it's time to update. Your competitor's could have a state of the art website that shows parts in 3D, shows how to install the part in HD video, and tells their customers common tips and practices. As a customer where would you buy? I would buy from the 3D guy even if it was more expensive. You have got to continue to grow as a business owner and look for ways to enhance your business experience to others. Someone always has to be in the lead, why can't it be you?

Make Your Name Known

This is also a big opportunity for many people; they do not spend the time and resources to brand themselves. If you are wondering why your marketing may not be working; take a look at yourself. Who are you? What do you stand for? If you own a business, what is your purpose and for whom? What is your company motto or slogan? I own a business and mine is, "Building the Future of Others Today." I have this on my website, on my business cards, and other places. My business is helping other people obtain more wealth by building their business with better marketing.

Step Out of the Box

If you want to be successful, step out of the box, be different, be unique, be yourself. We are all unique and we all have the ability to stand out in a crowd. You have just got to make the decision and act upon the decision to stand out. If you want to be successful you have to be willing to do more than the rest of the world is. You have got to be relentless and think differently. Here are a couple ways that I thought outside the box. When I was getting started I approached my good friend atWing Printing and had him make me some awesome business cards. I ordered 1,000 cards and I know what you are thinking, my business is primary internet based; but here's why. Although people love the internet they still love a personal touch and love to touch an experience things. Look at home shows for example, they attract millions of people every year because people can touch and experience things. Once I received my business cards I thought of ways to get them out to people. I started putting them with my signed receipt at all restaurants when I leave, in magazines when I fly, in buckets at restaurants that offer a "free meal" if your card is picked, and many other places. Again you have got to do what everyone else is not willing to do to stand out.

Roughly seventeen years ago I began my career into retail, and had been with the same major retailer for the past fourteen years. I can remember starting out and I really had no idea what to expect or to do. To me it was a new company, new people, new rules, new expectations, new everything! How was I going to remember everything and prosper? I quickly learned who the leaders were and began observing and studying their responses to different situations. I have always had a strong internal feeling that I could do more: for other people and for my family. I have found this by joining a team that focuses on helping others obtain their dreams and becoming more in tune what really matters in life, our loved ones around us.

Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? - [quote="freddyb45":1t3lpfi8]For me it's the fact that all the time and effort you put in is worth a lot more, due to it making you "business" more profitable. Working for yourself is also a positive, although employing people you can trust is quite different.[/quote:1t3lpfi8] I like this idea. Working for yourself means you are investing in your own future, not someone else's, although there is value in working for someone else first to gain experience and confidence. Working for yourself does not automatically mean success, fame and fortune. For most entrepreneurs, it takes much work and dedication to get to the point of financial success and comfort - sometimes years. But the benefit is, again, you know you are investing in yourself and building equity for your own future. GT :-]
