How Entrepreneurs Make Money from Leadership

Guest post by: Jay Allyson

Article Overview: Being successful is not only about being around leaders, it's about your own leadership. I know many people will say "I don't care about being a leader, just show me the money". But you have to earn that money - and you do so by leadership, and by the value you offer to others - it's a trade. Your own personal development and mastery, your relationship building, and the success of others you help, this is your side of the bargain. Then the money comes. Here's how.

How Entrepreneurs Make Money from Leadership

Leadership goes hand in hand with your success as an entrepreneur. Being amongst successful people will show you it's all about relationships. I like to be surrounded by leaders, by people who are successful. And this can mean changing the people you hang out with!

When you move on with your life and you can afford a wealthy lifestyle, people notice that you are going beyond the life they lead. And people don't like to be passed!

Taking a new and different path can cause a lot of resentment to some people around you. They see you now work from home, you have a new car, you take more vacations, you stay up late Sundays because you don't need to work Monday. But they are still where they are. People don't like to look in that mirror!

Here's the thing. These people you pass are not the ones you should pay attention to. These are the "nay-sayers", the dream stealers, they are not the leaders you want to be. Don't seek validation on your actions from these guys!

Instead, start caring more about what the leaders care about.

Track the people who drive you on, who make you grow, think positively, be an optimist, to seek out adventure and change your lifestyle, who make you strive to be more than average, ho help you choose beyond ordinary, to be extraordinary.

This is why the right community is SO important to us - you want to pick the group with the people who have the results you want in your lifestyle.

I started tracking people who really set the precedent for you. This could be their income, their skills or simply personal attributes. So you start to pay attention to people of a greater calibre.

We hook up to great training calls and go to events. Because it's so important to focus on mindset, learning from the leaders and the people who are where you are aiming to get.

But being successful is also about your leadership.

The things you are prepared to put yourself out for - that is leadership. It's the discipline you need, the things you don't feel comfortable or confident with - that's leadership.

The reason why that is leadership is this. Aiming beyond the norm and stepping out of your comfort zone is always an inspiration to others - taking that action, you lead the way for them.

Who are you going to inspire if you don't step beyond the norm, if you live your life playing safe, keeping inside the boundaries? Ordinary people do ordinary things. Average people have average lives.

If you want an extraordinary life, you have to do something beyond the norm, be extraordinary person.

So you know you're on the right track when you feel outside your comfort zone. You either growing or you're dying. Simple.

Sometimes you have to force yourself to go outside your comfort zone. But do so in the knowledge that this is leadership - if you're willing to play the game of going outside of your comfort zone.

Make it fun, your challenge. Visualise the gap from where you are now to where you want to be.

This will tell you how big is the battle to go beyond the normal. Stretching that comfort zone is a good leadership exercise. You have to keep stretching, find new ways to stretch yourself, so that you always go beyond what 97% of people do.

Everybody has his or her own discomfort - their own cross to bear, as they say. What makes the difference is your willingness to stretch beyond the norm, in spite of your particular situation or circumstance.

Stretching, stepping outside your comfort zone ... this is shows you are extraordinary, that you're prepared to beat the odds of the 97%. That you take action to realise your dreams. That you don't allow scepticism or dream stealers to hold you back.

Leadership in this way is your competitive advantage.

What are you prepared to do to go beyond the 50%, 75%, 90% and 97% percentile of what other people do?

This is leadership. This lead you to success and enable you to lead others to success.

Re: Quote of the Day - "The only people witho Re: Quote of the Day - "The only people witho - Thanks for sharing this Evan, there are some very powerful quotes in there, I particularly like this one:- You are now at a crossroads. This is your opportunity to make the most important decision you will ever make. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don't think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully. regards, Mal.
Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Everyone, Gosh, I REALLY appreciate your concrete feedback. This was far more than I expected and I'm glad you said what you thought straight out. Each of you have shared something of value and I want to take some more time to think and really go over what each of you have said. However, I can see there are some things I need to change right away. What an interesting point about a NEW program perhaps making people think they are guinea pigs! This is NOT what I want to convey! It's funny how we can see some things so clearly in others while not always seeing it for ourselves! I must admit there are a few things I've been meaning to change (like my bio which is very outdated). Obviously, these things need to be higher on my priority list. You caught me like the plumber who puts his clients first and doesn't get around to fixing his own tap! As far as my target market, I do feel quite strongly about working with Women Leaders and doing Leadership Coaching with them. It's non-negotiable in my books. In my Executive Coaching training, the terms "Leaders" and "Executives" are interchangable. To me, an Executive is a Leader and so is the Business Woman or Entrepreneur who is CEO of her own business. I love working with decision makers! What I did learn is that I need to avoid opening up the Leadership term beyond what I described above. I'm also wondering if there is a misunderstanding with the general public as to what Leadership Coaching really is. Leadership Coaching is all about developing your leadership skills, both as a people manager and in more effectively running and growing the business. There is ALWAYS room for growth in some way. As well, sometimes, we just need a sounding board to clarify what our next BEST step is. In fact, if a woman thinks she has nothing to work on, then we aren't a good Client/Coach fit anyway. How can she grow if she doesn't see the value of expressing ALL of the great ability within her? How can her company grow if she doesn't see the value of strategic planning for the next best level? Thanks again to you all! I will go back to my website and really question whether I am conveying the right message. I got more than I bargained for in this Spotlight... you generously offered way more than I was asking. I think we could be on to something great for the Forum. Now it's time to let someone else have the spotlight. It would be great if everyone took a turn! In gratitude, Tami
Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? - It is a difficult decision to make. Lets start it this way - What are you more interested in? Money? or Friends? or Both? If its purely Money, then Blog might be an appropriate answer. But consider this - It will be people (visitors) that will bring traffic to your blog and then Money will follow. This will be possible after a time and during this time it will be your friends who will be the starters. If you are looking for friends only, then its true that not many will be interested in knowing how you have beaten them in the game or the other way round. So it will be preferable to have a Forum where they can share ideas with you and others. But you can share your insider knowledge with them and invite comments from your Blog. You can also put up information on what others (including your friends) don't know about Tennis. The blog you create can provide News, Inside Information and also Techniques that can be used by the new entrants in the world of Tennis.
Making Money in 2011 Making Money in 2011 - Hello forum members! As we draw closer to the new year I thought it would be appropriate to change the title of our forum category "Making Money in 2010" to "Making Money in 2011" - I'm looking forward to some interesting discussions and wish everyone a prosperous New Year!
QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? - I have always used Microsoft Money to run my business - accounting, invoicing, etc. It came with my computer when I got it and integrated well with my online banking system so everything is a breeze. It only takes 30-60 minutes every quarter to do the bookkeeping (keep in mind that I have a very simple business - no inventory, very little invoicing, I do all my payments by credit card, etc). Is QuickBooks or Money the best accounting tool for small business owners? Or is there something even better?
