FOOD CONCESSION BUSINESS OFFERS JOB SEEKERS FINANCIAL RELIEF AND CAREER OPPORTUNITY

For many, starting a food concession business is, not only a viable solution to their unemployment problems, but, is also an opportunity to become a successful small business owner.

In today’s difficult economy millions of people are unemployed and struggling financially. Job seekers are scouring every niche for a wage to replace theirs that has been outsourced, downsized or simply disappeared. Times are indeed tough. If there ever was a good time for people to nourish their entrepreneur spirit, now is that time. For those lucky to have been born with the entrepreneur gene, taking responsibility for their own income by becoming self-employed could be their best route to securing an income.

However, finding and selecting the right business venture is more important now than ever before. Even during a healthy economy starting a new business is a difficult and risk-filled undertaking. If you’re not blessed with special skills and capital resources finding a bona fide business opportunity may seem impossible. One way to improve the odds of finding a venture that’s right for you is by listing specific criteria you personally require in your new business. From there, any startup idea that makes the list should be further analyzed.

For some people, initial business venture criteria might include:

• Requires minimal start-up costs.
• Requires little prior education or experience.
• Can be run part-time or full time.
• The entire family can participate.
• Is recession sturdy.
• Has high profit potential.
• Can become profitable quickly.
• Is fun.

Legitimate moneymaking opportunities that meet these seemingly unreasonable criteria are rare. However, there is one that does - the food concession business. The business of making money with a food stand is somewhat unconventional, yet, is as American as hot dogs on the fourth of July. Anyone who has been to a fair or festival and seen the lines of hungry people waiting to buy food can easily imagine a food booth as a viable way to earn money. However, on closer inspection the advantages of becoming self employed in the food concession business may, or may not, outweigh the disadvantages.

A Food Concession Business:

• Has the potential to make a large amount of money in a relatively short period of time.
• Is a cash business, has minimal licensing requirements, and is relatively unregulated.
• Has a high profit potential with a relatively small investment.
• Can be a part-time or full-time venture.
• Provides the tax benefits of self-employment.
• Empowers the concession operator with absolute control over nearly all aspects of his or her business.
• Can be customized to the level of involvement and earnings that's best for the concessionaire.
• Provides a financial lifeline during a bad economy.
• Is recession sturdy- people always need to eat.
• Does not require previous experience.
• Can be a family affair.
• Is never boring.

However, a Food Concession Business also:

• Like any sole propriety, does not provide the owner with health insurance, disability insurance, sick leave or a paid vacation benefit.
• Can be risky. Income is always uncertain.
• Is vulnerable to unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances.
• Is physically demanding.
• Is often stigmatized as not being a legitimate small business.
• Is very competitive.

Across the country all kinds of people, for all sorts of reasons, operate all types of food booths at fairs, festivals and special events. They come to the business from unique backgrounds, and with different perspectives, levels of expertise, sets of goals, and personal challenges. In return, every concessionaire benefits differently, and has varying levels of success. The food concession business is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but rather a lifestyle. Many people thrive as a concessionaire and wouldn't consider any other business, even during a robust economy. And, most importantly, in addition to being, possibly, the best way forward financially for anyone who is unemployed, becoming your own boss and taking control of your own income is, if nothing else, empowering.

Re: I want to make money online - First, I'd say definitely online. Your $3,000 will go a lot further online than offline. Second, I'd read Kevin's list and the linked article and make a BUSINESS decision what you want to do, what you can offer and who you can sell it to. Do some serious keyword search and find a hungry niche, and this is your start (free). Second step (free): Sign up for clickbank, paydotcom or some other affiliate exchange and find suitable products to promote. Third step (free): Get a free site somewhere, but make sure it's on something that looks like its own domain - yourname.wordpress.com or yourname.blogspot.com or some such. Write some nice things that promote your affiliate products and put your affiliate links on the page. Fourth step (free): Go on article directories like evancarmiahcel.com (if appropriate) or ezinearticles.com and write stuff that is interesting for your niche, using your niche keywords. Put a link to your new site in the resource box/bio. Keep doing this until you make money. My kids (18 and 12 at the time) sold stuff on clickbank. Anyone can do this. Good luck!
Are you Self Employed or a Business Woman? - Us women are especially vulnerable to thinking we can do EVERYTHING ourselves! I'm not immune to this way of thinking either. (It seems to go with the territory of having XX chromosomes and growing up in our North American culture.) Anyhow, this kind of thinking can actually trip us women up when it comes to business. I've heard it said that a true business is something you create that can eventually run by itself. A business is meant to give us freedom and not tie us down. A business works FOR YOU. If you are the one working FOR YOUR BUSINESS, then I invite you to open up to the possibility of using your entrepreneur skills to recreate a business that works for you. When I was first challenged on this concept, it was a huge AHA moment. I am grateful because I realized I was still a little stuck on working harder instead of working smarter. I've opened up to a whole new world of possibility and now I'm thinking MUCH BIGGER than before. I expect my income will be much bigger as well. In all honesty, I've realized that my coaching business has been a glorified job. I will still do coaching because I love to do it, but now I am in the process of developing multiple streams of income that use my time more efficiently and products that sell even while I'm on holidays. I'm also developing a retail store which will eventually mostly run itself. Then I will move on to my next project. It's liberating to be on the path of creating businesses that work FOR me.
