But if you want to build a website that works for you, there are certain key issues that you need to focus on.

Choose a Good Title

These might seem unimportant to most people but this is the first thing that your human visitors as well as search engines look for. Write a short sentence for your title. Having one or two words really doesn’t tell much about your website. If you are stuck about thinking for a good title, go to Google Keywords. It is a free tool to use. Choosing a high traffic phrase for your title can mean more visitors to your website. Alternatively, take some time to think of a good title for your website.

Research on Your Website Topic

Taking some time to research on your website topic can work wonders for you in the long run. Be sure about what you want to write about. This is especially important when you have a blog on your website. You need to decide what your blog or website is about. If your website is about weight loss, make sure you know enough about weight loss before building a website. Doing some reading about weight loss reading weight loss blogs are some examples you can do before adding content to your website. Mind you, do not plagiarize!

Keyword Research

You might have heard this before but keyword research must not be underestimated this days. Having good keywords in our website can help promote traffic and boost your search engine rankings. Building a website using non specific keywords may be alright for you and your human visitors but not to search engines. Search engines are constantly looking for new content based on specific keywords. Again using the Google keyword tool can help you decide which are good high traffic keywords.

Monetize Your Website

I am sure you must have heard of this. Monetizing your website basically means making money with your website. One way is to join an affiliate program. An affiliate program basically means you earn a commission for each product you sell for others. The best and easiest place to start choosing products as an affiliate is Clickbank. You can also monetize your website by adding Google Adsense to your website. Google Adsense helps you earn when someone clicks on a Google sponsored link located on your website.

Drive traffic to your website

I have explained certain things about driving traffic to your website above but there is a lot more to driving traffic than it can be explained in this entire article. To make this as brief as possible, I’m not going to discuss the details of driving traffic. Some simple things you can do is to write articles and submit them to article directories, participate in blog discussions and forums and leave your links or forum signatures there. Join social networking programs and add links or content that lead back to your website. Pay-per-click advertising is also another excellent way to drive traffic.

But how do you know if you truly have a good idea or not? If we ask ourselves, we may be suffering from tunnel vision. On the other hand, friends/family may try to discourage us from pursuing a small business because of their own fears, while others will simply give us an empty "you can do it!" line.
