Work From Home As An Affiliate - 3 Important Considerations

Everyone claims to be an expert in the field of affiliate marketing. Almost everyone comes out with products to help people start their home business as an affiliate. However, no one knows exactly for sure which method works the best and which are just plain useless information. There are also many websites out there claiming that you can earn thousands of dollars a month from home or few hundred thousands of dollars a year without experience. Honestly in my opinion that never happens. You might be skeptical reading another article on affiliate marketing. Of course I wouldn't blame you. But this is a true and honest conclusion that I've made based on my experience as an internet marketer.

Basically, there are 3 important but fairly broad areas that you must do to become an affiliate and they are:

Product

• Website

• Marketing

1. Choose A Product

You can choose to be an affiliate for SEO optimization programs, pet grooming, self-help books or weight lost programs but it really does not matter what product you choose to promote. In fact the most important thing is to be well read or well-informed about the particular product you choose to promote. My advice is to do enough research and gather as much information about a product before becoming an affiliate. People tend to trust someone who is well versed about a particular product than someone who looks like who is borrowing ideas from another expert.

2. Get A Website

Some might disagree with me on this. As you might already know some people claim to make five figure salaries without having a website as an affiliate. I may be wrong here but I personally think that you need to have a website as an affiliate and making instant five figure salaries does not happen overnight.

A website can be used to explain or provide valuable information about a product you are promoting. Create content on your website. Start a blog and add in useful information to your visitors regularly. Frequently update your webpage. I don't mean making a flashy website that is worthy of the best designed website award. The most important thing is content. The internet is all about content and providing useful valuable information will definitely build trust with your visitors and attract search engines to your website.

3. Marketing Your Product

Marketing can be a very dreaded word for the uninitiated. I would not want to go into the intricate details of marketing your product on the internet yet. Unfortunately, a well designed website and a well known product without proper marketing will just mean no sales or leads. This is equivalent to the death row for you as an affiliate.

If you cannot imagine how to market your product try thinking how Coke or Nike promote their products. If you've guessed it right; banners, advertisements, word of mouth all form part of the marketing engine. Similarly, when promoting your products you need to think of advertising. You will also need to know how to bring traffic to your website.

Bringing traffic to your website is also another topic on itself but if you are just too tired of SEO, article marketing is one fantastic way to start. Regularly submitting articles to article directories is free and it is publicity on itself! Remember the internet is about content, as long as you have fresh content linked to your website you are on a roll.

Conclusion

The 3 broad areas that I've discussed above should guide you on your way to be an affiliate marketer from home. If you think there are some parts missing or if there is more to it, I've decided that it would be a whole new article by itself or a series of them. Bear in mind that no amount of information will help you to be successful if you don't start acting. As with every business there are risks but if you don't take the first step you will never be different from where you are now.

To Your Success!

Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - Carol, Mary and David - thanks for your great input and insight on Affiliate Marketing! This is the kind of discussion I was hoping for in this thread. There are pros and cons to Affiliate Marketing, just as there are to any business. As has been suggested, he best policy is to proceed with caution and do some research before jumping in. As Carol has recommended, this topic thread in the EvanCarmichael.com forum is the ideal place to ask questions and seek further input on available Affiliate Marketing programs. If a person is serious about building an online business and is interested in Affiliate Marketing plans, they should approach the process as they would any other form of business. Research, ask questions, compare opportunities, participate in forums on online business and Affiliate Marketing. GT :-]

It doesn't matter how successful you are in your business - it's always possible to learn something new. Re: What works for you? Re: What works for you? - Hi Yinka, I work better under pressure of deadlines when I am doing something for other people. However, I like to have the leisure to develop my own projects. The first case is what Stephen Covey calls a "Quadrant 1" activity ("Important and urgent") whereas the second case is a "Quadrant 2" activity ("Important, not urgent"). We should aim to make as much time as possible for Q2 activities so that we can develop our own projects. Easier said than done!
Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - You made some very good points here Jeff and I agree with you, Affiliate Marketing should not be something that you concentrate all your efforts into. As i said earlier I have learned a lot with Affiliate Marketing and continue to do so, and it has helped me tremendously to understand what I am going to have to do in my chosen niche(s). I am also being coached by the same group of mentors as GT and we are all moving forward daily to achieve our ultimate goals. Take care, Carol
