Giving Away Your Best Is the Surest Road To Profit

You got into e-Marketing to make money. Does it make you just a little uncomfortable to hear that the best way to make money is to give away your very best stuff? Many of life's most profound truths are counter-intuitive, and this e-Marketing technique is no exception.

Don't break the bank

Even if your business is not traditionally information-based, information is great to provide as a giveaway. Giving people advise in an area you where are expert doesn't have to cost a dime! Simply write your thoughts down, and you've got a guide or eBook. You can also record yourself speaking as an audio or video file. When you take the information in your head and make it available to others in this manner, they will come to respect you as an authority in your field. Your giveaway does not have to be information-based, but it may be the least costly way to go.

Create a willingness to give back

The act of giving something valuable to someone usually creates a desire in them to give something back to you. This is an automatic response in most people. If you do something nice for me, I am going to feel an urge to do something nice for you in return. This is not about manipulating your prospect. You do nice things in your daily life because it is the right thing to do, not because expect something from others. It works the same in life as it does in e-Marketing.

Your prospect will come to see you as likable and trustworthy

Giveaways also give your prospect a chance to get to know you, and to be impressed by you.

Think about how you feel when you go into a retail store and sales people immediately rush up and try to sell you on something. Most of us usually react by feeling pressured and just want them to let you alone until you are ready for them.

Now think about when you need to buy something and ask a friend for advice or a recommendation. You'll usually take your friend's recommendation, even if they aren't an expert in the field. Contrast that reaction to the one we have with a salesperson who we don't already know and trust.

Through your giveaway, your prospect's opinion of you can move from being the unknown salesperson to the trusted advisor.

Develop an email marketing list

Giveaways are primarily structured where you get something rather valuable in exchange for the free thing you giveaway. Usually, what you want in exchange is an email address and any other contact information you can get. By collecting these onto a list, you will be able to contact the person later with a marketing offer. Use an email list management system or autoresponder to manage the process of collecting this information and doing it with the prospects' permission.

Be Relevant

For your list to be valuable, you need prospects on it which have an interest in the products or services you have to offer. Your giveaways should closely align with your businesses products and services. This is important to make sure the people you are signing up might later become paying customers.

You do not want to use your list like this... Do not send offers to your list which are not consistent with your business. If you are in dog training, you will not make many sales of weight loss products to them. This is a waste of time. It also makes me less inclined to take any offers from that marketer seriously. You will almost certainly also start driving people to unsubscribe from your list.

Don't lose your hard-earned prospects by pitching them stuff they don't want. This relevancy starts with your giveaway. Keep all of this aligned from the start.

Provide value

Your giveaway must provide value to the person receiving it. If your giveaway is not valuable to the prospect, all the benefits described above will not come to you.

You are going to be very tempted to hold onto your "good stuff" until you can get paid for it. But your giveaway is your first impression. If it is weak, the prospect will not be impressed by you. You will lose your chance to develop trust and respect in your prospect.

Don't just make it good, make it great!

This is where is all comes together, and even if you‘ve been on board with everything up to this point, you may still need to make a major mindset shift in order to make the really big money.

You should give away your best work!

This is not to say you should give away all of your work. But you should think about what the most valuable piece of information or advice you have is and give that away. One of the best ways to do this is to give them the answers they need to take the first step toward whatever it is they are seeking.

What will your prospects think of you when you‘ve given them something as incredibly valuable as that? Do you think they will want to thank you for it? Will they see you as a likable and trusted source of information? Will they be impressed by the fact that you helped them solve a particular problem without asking for anything in return?

You can see just how significant a valuable giveaway can be to potential sales prospects. How likely would you be to buy from someone who has done that much for you for free? Chances are you would be willing to buy from them, and you would probably do it more than once.

Make your giveaways great, and give tremendous value. Win over your prospects. Then you will have built up a great amount of respect and goodwill, and will be able to sell things to them.
