How To Create Believability in a Keynote Speech
What are the secrets to getting on stage in front of an audience large or small and making them believe you? As a matter of fact, public speaking is well known to be one of the last things on earth most people…would not want to do? So, how to you overcome that hurdle and get the audience on your side?
First lets talk about getting over the fearful stage fright first. Start small! Just taking turns at Sunday school is one way. That’s a small group. From there just keep working your way to larger audiences. Volunteer talks at your local YMCA or VFW clubs. The list are endless. In time you should overcome this obstacle. You want to look right into the eyes of the onlookers. If that bugs you, just look at their forehead and they won’t be able to tell the difference.
In order to accomplish believability you must talk to their subconscious or inner self. You must accomplish painting a picture to the onlookers. People believe by seeing pictures on the screen of their imagination. On the picture screen of their mind.
So, how do you do this? The speaker is like an artist with a brush in his hand and a clean canvas in front of him. He’s conveying with well chosen words to say at just the right time for just the right meaning. The sunlight is beaming down on the canvas as he strokes left and right with such skill…you know he’s a true artist.
All disciplines become art form in time. Words are to the wordsmith or speaker as song is the musician, as dance is to the ballerina. The speaker must connect with their subconscious, that they know and feel they’ve been right in the speaker’s shoes. This is how the believability comes to pass. You must make it happen! The speaker will accomplish this by dialog, timing, body language and tone.
The individuals may forget your name, they may forget what you looked like. They may even forget where the meeting was where you were the speaker. They may even forget the day, the month and time. But if you connected with the audience in that one special way, this is when they believed you. This is the sweet spot. This is the (x) factor. So when they believed you…they’ll remember the message in the talk, the keynote of you presentation.
It’s no different than the things you’ve remembered for a lifetime. Such as your first kiss, your first date or you wedding day. It’s no different than you remembering the day you graduated from high school or graduated from college. When a speaker has accomplished his mission of his believable keynote, then he’s earned his pay.
