The Internet is The Newest Tool For Social Media

Social media is a method used to influence people to believe certain ideas to follow certain courses of action. Social media in the past has sold everything from toothpaste to war. Now we have the greatest tool at our fingertips…the internet. The list of users of social media includes editors, advertisers, teachers, politicians, preachers, salesmen, authors, reformers, artists--as well as our parents, our friends and ourselves.

Wikipedia: Social media is media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

In recent times books, magazines, e-books, cell phones, email, handbills, newspapers, posters, door hangers, postcards, letters, radio, television, motion pictures, theater and billboards. Now we have the internet with Twitter, Face book, You Tube--as well as all the others! As you can see if one can’t read he can hear. Every form of audience can be reached by social media with the tool of choice.

There is a common impression that we should be suspicious of anything called social media because it can be shady. The word can be connected by the activities of selfish or dishonest persons who conceal their real purposes and perhaps even their identity. Whether we consider it good or bad depends upon what we think. Always more comforting for a person to feel that he’s more intelligent, attractive and virtuous than perhaps he actually is.

What it all boils down to is, any means of communications may be used as a tool for spreading social media. A great deal of social media passes from person to person in private conversations. The most effective work to date is the internet! It’s now even more effective to top civic, political, social and personal contact.

But whispering campaigns are often used by the social media who don’t wish to be held publicly responsible for the ideas they set afloat. Here’s the thing in a nutshell. Whatever social media you want to spread social media to every man, women and child on the face of the earth, good or bad can be spread. All they need is a internet laptop and a cell phone.

Even in the most remote location like some Alaskan villages, that don’t even have roads going to one village to another. If they have a laptop and a cell phone…social media could and does reach them.

I will tell you that the world is about 1 1/2 behind when it comes to understanding social media. Building a section now will put EvanCarmichael.com is a great position a year down the road when people realize Social Media can produce more traffic than SEO. Jeff

Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! - GT - thanks for the FYI - I'm not sure if we'll put a link back. Something to consider though! Trent - the new category is "Social Network and Media" which was put in to compliment the Online Businesses category that currently exists. Overall the new categories are: - Looking For, Networking and Events - Review My... - Social Network and Media - Brags and Rants These came as a result of Ringo doing research on other forums and thinking about what could be improved on ours to give a better experience for everyone. I hope you enjoy them! David, I'm looking forward to reading your Brag / Rant!

I also read it and I believe Social Media is here to stay, until the next best thing comes up. Social media proved to be useful for me many times and I think everyone should use it for their business.
Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance - [quote="vbn411":7qciluxl]Social Media is space that you have to be in to succeed in our current climate. People are going to be discussing your brand / product whether you like it or not, so you might as well join the conversation and add value. [/quote:7qciluxl] I think that's probably one of the most realistic way to think about it. There's no real textbook way of understanding Social Media, it's the networks of people and their interactions that will exist with or without your input. As for Jennifer, You can always have 2 Facebook pages. Many people do. There is also LinkedIn, which is like a professional networking version of Facebook. The only way to know is to try it.
