6 Ways To Increase Blog Traffic

6 Ways To Increase Blog Traffic

Being deeply involved with network marketing, a significant part of my professional time is spent answering questions related to blog traffic optimization. With more and more people jumping on the blogging bandwagon, the desire to increase blog traffic to enhance online presence is also increasing. So, I thought it would be worth sharing my strategies and experience here.

1. Great Blogging Software is a Good start

A blog CMS that suits your requirements can make all the difference. To further make an impression and stand out, I suggest having a custom platform – blog that can be completely tailored according to your users. For general cases, Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad or Movable Type will suffice. However, try to keep the look and layout as simple as possible. Imagine, in detail, how you want archiving, sub-pages, commenting, user accounts, categorization, multiple feeds etc.

2. Associate Catchy Title Tags

Title tags are meant for your regular visitors, RSS feed subscribers and search engines. As such, a title tag should be snappy, short and catchy. To accomplish this successfully, first write the content and the title, then search at WordTracker to look for any ordering or phrasing that can help you target your audience better.

3. Participate at associated Blogs and Forums

No matter which niche or industry you belong to, there are always forums and blogs which are already active. Read the content of the blog/forum thoroughly and comment accordingly. Through your comments, you can drive people towards your blog and increase blog traffic. To find blogs related to your industry, conduct searches at Technorati and Del.icio.us. Remember to sort blogs based on number of authority links.

4. Tag Your Blog’s Content

Perhaps, the first place to tag your posts is Technorati. I suggest having relative tags pointing directly to your desired Technorati searches. Besides this, other good places include Flickr and del.icio.us. Tagged content can also divert traffic from popular websites like Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon.

5. Invite your Industry’s Celebrity Bloggers

Inviting a celebrity or well known blogger of your niche to write a short blog post can increase your popularity overnight. This can not only enhance your blog’s reader base but also earn you quality branded links. To convince such a person, you can flatter his/her celebrity status or actively take part on his blog/form. However, prior to posting, ensure that you make the necessary amendments and that the guest blogger agrees to your terms.

6. Join Tribes or Build Your Own

Tribe refers to your dynamic followers or group you are associated with. With social media erupting at an enormous pace, search engines like Google and Yahoo are giving more importance to a blogger’s ability to attract people. Higher the number of people following you, the more traffic you’ll have on your blog. This not only gives you an opportunity to connect real time with your visitors but also enhances direct sales and Alexa rankings. You can use Twitter and Facebook as a means to build a tribe. However, the tribe members should be related to your niche rather than being a homogenous crowd of social marketing mavens. Also, do read one of my recent posts where I have mentioned how a service called ‘Unified tribe’ can increase your visitor count.

These tips are just a tip of the iceberg. There are, literally, limitless ways to increase blog traffic. Even though, blogging is a highly crowded field, these tips will definitely give you a head start.

Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - That's great GT! What method did you use to put up the Entrepreneur Blog Network in your Wordpress Blog? We're always looking for the easiest methods to help bloggers who are not techies get involved.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - LOL, I spoke too soon. Within a few hours of my post, Alexa updated the Traffic Rank on the toolbar. Note however that the 3 month Traffic Rank on Alexa.com has still not been updated...
EvanCarmichael.com suggestion - Maybe I missed it but I would like to suggest that a Blog be created to support the Forum. The idea is that in the blog you put in snippets of some of the biggest conversations with a 'read more' link to the forum itself. Setting up the Blog and clipping some conversations onto it wouldn't take very long.
