STFU! Then Make Money...

Little Kimberley swung the bat, mishit the ball and it flew into little Jimmy's hand, they were out, it was our turn. We all charged to get to the front of the line, knowing fine well that if the loser kids got infront our team would be out without me even getting a turn.

C'mon, i was one of those dude's who rattled it for miles and notched a home run

So, there i was, right at the front, i walked forward and picked up the bat. I looked around for where the fat, slow kids were so i could hit the ball in their direction (no nastiness here, purely tactical reasons)

There was always that person up next who couldnt stay back by the cone and kept edging forward, like it was gonna make his turn come round faster.

Instead of me focusing 100% on hitting that baby for mile's, i had one eye on not hitting the dude who edged up behind me

Mr Steven's started to bowl, i got ready and swung my bat

miss, strike one...

i turned and told the dude, to get outta the way (probz not the exact words i used), he moved back a little but as soon as i turned to take my second shot, he was right back in my space again

Mr Steven's bowled again, i swung..

miss, strike two...

I felt the muscles in my body tighten a little and my teeth clench...

Mr Steven's had the ball in his hand, 'miss this time and your out Ewan' he said...

the ball flew through the air, before i had even started to swing the bat, i heard the dude behind me say 'my turn, my turn' in his irratating voice,

and as i swung the bat...

miss, strike 3...

i turned to the dude, shaking with rage,

and swung the bat with everything i had left

connected beautifully with the area just above the back of his knee

BOOM - Home Run baby!

all the tension was instantly released, as he lay there bubbling like a little girl, i turned to Mr Steven's, waiting for a raging, sure enough i was sent for an early shower and a meeting with Mr Steven at lunchtime...

ok, so, the dude's problem only cost him a sore leg at school

BUT

if you have this problem throughout life, its gonna cost you waaaaay more. I presume you have clicked as to what the problem is but if you have not, dont worry. I had no idea i was doing it either untill i was made aware of it from a section of a book i read.

Im sure you have had the conversation with the person who, while you are speaking, they are not actually listening, yes they are listening but they dont hear what you are saying. They are waaaaay to busy thinking about what they are gonna say next.

It will cost you opportunities as you move through life and especially so if you are an entrepreneur.

I remember calling leads, and i guess my problem came more from nerves / inexperience / and the stoooopid f****n script that MLM companies give ya to read from while ya call potential victims, oopsies, i mean customers.

Ha, i remember calling one lady up, i was sooo nervous and i read a bit from my script, that was meant to be a pointer as to how to determine what part i read next..... i hung up

anyway...

I thought sales was about you selling people stuff. Explaining, telling and convincing people all about stuff, then they buy your stuff because your pitch was awesome.

Now, dont get me wrong, it kinda is about that, so know your stuff

BUT...

the key to really selling stuff is what comes before that.

The listening part

The day i was asked the question, 'Ewan, why dya think you have 2 ears and one mouth' was the day that changed a whole lotta stuff for me

people just want solutions

Once someone knows you are generally interested in them, not just in sales, but life in general, you will get on waaaay better, barriers get dropped, doors get opened and you get invited instead of trying to invite yourself

So, hear then be heard, understand then be understood, be interested then interesting, (a whole load of cheezy lines, but live by them, they fit well)

dont be that annoying little **** that only want's to hear their own voice, your customers will smell ya a mile off and you will be the dude who looks like they are only interested in the sale.

Re: Quote of the Day - "The only people witho Re: Quote of the Day - "The only people witho - Thanks for sharing this Evan, there are some very powerful quotes in there, I particularly like this one:- You are now at a crossroads. This is your opportunity to make the most important decision you will ever make. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don't think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully. regards, Mal.
Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? - It is a difficult decision to make. Lets start it this way - What are you more interested in? Money? or Friends? or Both? If its purely Money, then Blog might be an appropriate answer. But consider this - It will be people (visitors) that will bring traffic to your blog and then Money will follow. This will be possible after a time and during this time it will be your friends who will be the starters. If you are looking for friends only, then its true that not many will be interested in knowing how you have beaten them in the game or the other way round. So it will be preferable to have a Forum where they can share ideas with you and others. But you can share your insider knowledge with them and invite comments from your Blog. You can also put up information on what others (including your friends) don't know about Tennis. The blog you create can provide News, Inside Information and also Techniques that can be used by the new entrants in the world of Tennis.
Making Money in 2011 Making Money in 2011 - Hello forum members! As we draw closer to the new year I thought it would be appropriate to change the title of our forum category "Making Money in 2010" to "Making Money in 2011" - I'm looking forward to some interesting discussions and wish everyone a prosperous New Year!
QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? - I have always used Microsoft Money to run my business - accounting, invoicing, etc. It came with my computer when I got it and integrated well with my online banking system so everything is a breeze. It only takes 30-60 minutes every quarter to do the bookkeeping (keep in mind that I have a very simple business - no inventory, very little invoicing, I do all my payments by credit card, etc). Is QuickBooks or Money the best accounting tool for small business owners? Or is there something even better?
Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest - It's interesting to see what the different motivations are by Age Category. I've noticed this around me: 20 to 29yr olds: Motivator: Money 30 to 39yr olds: Motivator: Success/Ambition 40 to 49yr olds: Motivator: Family comes first 50 to 59yr olds: Motivator: Leaving a legacy i've only gone that far in my analysis. Of course this is a braid generalization but I find that it helps direct my marketing to individuals in different age brackets. The product/service can be the same but the Marketing message (Benefit Statement) to a 20 year will revolve around "Money" vs. a 30-something would be on their "Self Image"
