1. Pitching to friends and family: They tell you to make a list of 100 of your closest friends and family including your high school teachers and your doctor and your work colleagues. This out of date method works no more and might have been a brilliant strategy during the 19Th century. Facing the facts however we live in the 21st century with a ever changing fast world driven by the Internet where a billion people search online daily.
2. Door to door sales: Not only is that one of the most hated jobs to do but also such a time consuming way to get people on your team. The new word around the planet is "leverage" and if you know the definition of that word; I beg to know how door to door people are going to leverage themselves? Make duplicate clones or have their friends and family (yes that one again :) help them out who don't usually have the same passion as them.
3. Cold calling: Takes a lot of guts and stick on your side of the phone. Calling up strangers is not the most pleasant thing to experience; also it can make someone depressed if they are not strong enough to handle the calls. Being an expert seller on the phone requires years of experience and even then the stats for the conversion are so low that its not worth pursuing for any else who is not an expert at this.
4. Selling pills and potions: When network marketing and Internet business mlm online first started it was a hit with pills potions and magic wands. Again sad to say these days are over. Any mlm business which has pills and potions as their products is just an excuse to offer something then turn into a ponzie scheme.

- Hi Kevin,
I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.

- Hi Everyone,
2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category.
I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above?

- We are running a Online Marketing Firm and we have some good clients to which we are offering a complete Digital Marketing strategy like Search, Mobile Marketing, Branding and Design. I think in Online Marketing company online presence can be a wining factor for the success of the company.

- Hi Kevin,
Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory.
Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing.
I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.

I completely agree! Those are all just "internet marketing" as far as I am concerned.
And I normally would have voted for internet marketing, however I chose social media marketing simply because there are more than enough IM forums out there already.
