The popularity of home based business is going over the roof. The recent recession, which really has not gone away yet, has resulted in people desperate for jobs and looking for alternate ways to make money. Reports have shown that the population in USA who want to start their own home based business, using the Internet, is over 70 million.

Having so many people start a home business, did you know that 97% of all these businesses would end up failing within 12 months? Why is that... the answer is very simple. Only 3% of these home business owners actually know how a "BUSINESS" works and the requirements for running it on a daily basis. That is a very very large failure rate and not something stacked in the favour of someone looking to quit their job or looking for a new income. So knowing that 97% of all new businesses fail within 12 months on the internet what can you do to make sure you are well equipped with the best business and knowledge so you SUCCEED like the 3%?

Firstly look at the 97% of people (which is the majority and this means the average right) and look at what they do and how they do it. Then go and do the complete opposite as these people are average just like everyone else so it is no wonder they are not going anywhere.

But what are the 3% of the successful people doing? Well they know exactly what a home business is and what is needed to run it smoothly. They know very well from experience and education (we are NOT talking about those who studied business in college) that the key to running a successful business online is marketing and system!

Marketing

What is marketing? Marketing is how you get new customers to your business. This is the primary reason where the 97% of the people FAIL and 3% SUCCEED to infinite and beyond! LITERALLY! And if you know you are in the 97% at this moment, you can easily move over to the 3% simply by quickly understanding what it is and learning and then applying all the learning.

Most people think marketing involves 'telling' people about your home business such as family and friends and work friends and telling them to join or tell others about it. They believe word of mouth is the only form of marketing there is (although it CAN be the most powerful). Others do things such as cold calling which means calling strangers on the telephone trying to sell to them. Alternative 97% methods are things such as handing out leaflets in shopping malls and gatherings. The problem with all these kind of methods is that its targeted at EVERYONE! Marketing is targeting ONLY the people that WANT your product or service. It is not the whole world; no wonder there is little result from endless leafletting or cold calling.

True marketing done by the 3% is done properly as they TARGET only the people they want. You must be thinking what kind these are and a few are such as Google AdWords where you target people who ONLY type AND click the "words" you want. Another strategy is for example handing out leaflets in a GYM if you are selling a health product such a Protein Shake. Leafletting itself is not the problem but HOW it is used. Can you see how these above methods are TARGETED and FILTERED so that the results are much higher!

System

This is the other tool that helps the home business owner from succeeding to failing. Choosing a good system can make ANYONE from any background from anywhere in the world with any qualifications to use and succeed in the business. A great example is McDonald's which is used worldwide and run by school kids. McDonald's probably has the best SYSTEM in the world for a business and therefore charge people around $1million for it:) They also train you on all other aspects of business in order for you to succeed as your success is theirs. Win Win situation for everyone!
