Without doubt, one of the best ways to get your local business onto the first page of Google is article writing and marketing. Writing articles and submitting them to the top article directories is without doubt the best way to get your business noticed by Google and the other main search engines.

How does this work, by writing original articles about your particular local trade or profession, and then submitting them to the top article directories, helps your business in several ways.

Firstly The top article directories are very highly ranked by the search engines, and by writing good quality content, that is not copied in any way, will get published in the directories and give you a quality link back to your website or blog, this is called a backlink.

What is a backlink? Well a backlink is a sort of vote for your website or blog, search engines are a little bit like teenagers, who like to follow the most popular person in their school of youth-club, this makes the person that they follow even more popular.

The search engine work in a similar way, but not all backlinks are equal, they have to be relevant to your website or blog, are you beginning to see what I mean? Can you see why it is important to write good quality articles?

As article directories are very highly ranked some of that ranking will rub off to benefit your own rankings, and your site will gradually move up until it will eventually get you to the first page of Google.

There is no easy way to do this way, some people are using article spinners (which is a software tool that can turn one article into 100 different articles), but the articles that a spinner turns out are not good, as they are almost unreadable, and the search engines have got wise to this, and are now penalising websites that are using these tricks.

The only way to do this job properly is to do it manually, that way you can make the article informative and interesting for the reader of it; the article should not be like a sales letter, as it won’t get published.

It is a time consuming task, but the better the article is the more chance it has of being picked up and used on other websites, this is quite legal as long as the republished article is left intact and credited to your site with a link, thus producing more linkbacks to your site.

There is also a chance that someone reading your article may even visit your site, again helping your rankings, and maybe even result in a sale or enquiry for you.

Writing good quality articles can also establish you as an expert in your particular trade or profession, and people would prefer to deal with an expert, it will also help you to get a better price for your local service.
