Video marketing and videos have become very popular with Google, since it acquired YouTube; the videos therefore tend to find their way up to the top of search results, quite often before your local business website.

Many people these days prefer to watch a video about a product or a service, and then read an article about it, there are many viral videos now, which means that people will tell their friends about them, and they will bepassed around, for other people to watch.

Increasingly more and more people are now searching YouTube when they are looking for services and product reviews, as well as information, and now that Google are presenting local search results first, it gives you the chance to get your local business on the first page of Google in your local region.

There are many video sites out there, outside of You Tube, and they tend to pick up these videos for use on their sites, and so do owners of other Web sites too, all this means greater visibility forYour local company, not only in your region, but also worldwide.

People are amazed that in two weeks they can have #1 listings for competitive local kewords. Tip: Don't stop by adding just one ad. As long as each page of your website is different and optimized for different keywords you should create multiple ad words for each page. Example: Type in "Minneapolis web development" in Google. You will notice we have two listings. One for our home page & one for our mission page. They are both optimized for "Minneapolis web development" so Google will approve both listings / ads. Jeff
Re: Domain name sugestion - On the dashes question, I just did a test on my own site, Grasp-The-Nettle.com and found I got the following results: grasp the nettle = 6th on page 1 of Google graspthenettle = 5th on page 1 of Google grasp-the-nettle = 6th on page 1 of Google It doesn't seem to make much difference.
Re: Promoting Videos On YouTube.com - Tube ToolBox - Videos posted on youtube get good search ranking and that too very quickly .Moreover Google puts a small picture icon on search results which draws attention more then other simple links.
Re: Social media question - I had to research Facebook a bit more than I normally would, to help a local non-profit organization decide how to use it for marketing purposes. I learned some interesting things. You can have your own personal profile page, which works great if you are an entrepreneur, but you can also start 2 other types of pages: 1) A fan page -- you can create an unlimited amount, as long as you are an official member of the business or organization 2) A group page -- which can be centered around any issue, business, or cause. But it's more limited than a fan page in several ways, and it's mostly for other Facebook members to interact on Anyway, just thought I would share that since it took me a while to finally wrap my head around how I will want to use Facebook for my own business in the future.
Re: How To Pick Keywords To Rank For - Hi Russell, Yes, typically if everyone on the first page of the Google results is using the keywords in the title then it's going to be very competitive and difficult to rank. The juice is typically not worth the squeeze in these cases. Unless you are a big brand name site and are committed to investing the time and money into really getting onto that first page, I would suggest moving to a different keyword. If half of the listings or fewer have the keywords then it's a decent one to target. It may take work to get to the #1 position but at least you have a good chance of getting on the first page. If you don't hit page one then you won't get many hits from Google.
