Leadership lesson: Tolerance is paramount - By John Bino

Maria Robinson said, “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.” As you may have gathered by now, it becomes imperative that you start a new day fresh. And why? Because starting over fresh everyday brings along with it clearer vision, renewed commitment, positive energy and no stress. The question is whether you are applying this principle to your everyday living or not. Are you?

Let’s take an example of dirty laundry. At the end of each day, you have dirty clothes to be put away to launder. Right? Imagine how you would feel if you were to wear the same clothes again the next day. Awkward? Wouldn’t you be uncomfortable for that whole day? Or worst yet, imagine you not taking a shower for a couple of days and then hitting the bed, wake up the next morning and go off to work without taking a shower again. What happens? In your aftermath, you leave behind stinking bed sheets, stinking clothes and stinking BO. Everything about you would stink! That’s exactly the point. Now imagine you were to bring along the dirty thoughts and stress of yesterday, when you start off the next day? How would that make you feel? At ease or stressed out? As it’s obvious, by bringing along the dirt of yesterday you are muddying your own waters. You are setting yourself up for stress. And then you complain that the day was horrible. Isn’t that so?

Now how does one start off fresh each day? After trying out many different methodologies I have managed to shortlist these techniques that work best for me.

Step 1: The first thing I do after the alarm bell goes off is to meditate for at least 20 minutes while still on the bed. I personally practice the Silva Method, but you can choose your own style. Benefit: Helps me to relax physically and mentally by getting into my alpha level.

Step 2: After the usual bathroom chores, I get into 20 minutes of cardio exercise. Benefit: This helps me get my heart rate up which helps in purifying the blood and keeps me energetic the whole day. And of course, keeps me from adding new layers of fat.

That’s how I start my day, which helps me to forget about yesterday. Marianne Williamson said, “Our past is a story existing only in our minds. Look, analyze, understand, and forgive. Then, as quickly as possible, chuck it.” So from this day forward start chucking out your yesterdays and live today as if it’s the best day of your life.

Adios and God Bless.
