If you work for Money, You will settle for less

If you have happened to read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, you will know that the philosophy of his Rich Das was completely opposite to that of his Poor Dad. During one of his recently concluded seminars, Robert Kiyosaki narrated an eye-opening story on how his Rich Dad taught him a valuable lesson in life.

When Robert was 9 years old, his Rich Dad told him to pick up all the cigarette butts that he can find on the street and collect it in a jar. Robert was promised $5 for every jar that he fills. Robert went about diligently collecting all the cigarette butts he could find. However to his rude surprise, when he placed the filled-up jars in front of his Rich Dad and asked for the $5, his Rich Dad told him that he would pay him in 6 years. Robert lost his mind and started complaining and bickering about how he his Rich Dad was a cheater. Listening to all of this, his Rich Dad agreed to pay him in 5 years. That got Robert started again. After much altercation and noise, Robert walked out of his Rich Dad’s house with the money – not $5, but 5 cents!! After a few days, when Robert had cooled down, his Rich Dad called him over and told him the lesson that had to be learnt from that experience. It was this – If you work for money, you will always settle for LESS!

This had held to my life. I remember when I failed miserably in my second business venture. I was so broke, that I had no other choice but to find a job. So when I went looking for a job I was looking only for the money, nothing else. I did find a job but the employer offered me a salary that was 40% lower than my asking price. He probably sensed my desperation. At first I told the employer that I got to think about it. When I started reflecting on it, I started coming up with reasons why I have to start at a lower price and then work my way up from there. My mind started forcing me to accept the offer, because it would rid me and my family of the pain of being broke. And guess what? I caved in. I did accept that offer.

When I heard the above story being related by Robert, I totally connected with the idea because it is very true. So what does one have to do? What should one work for, if not for money? The answer to that is – your purpose; your passion. You have to find a way to service customers in an industry wherein your passion or interest lies. If it doesn’t then you are just working for money, and if you working for money you will settle for less.

Walter Chrysler, founder of Chrysler Motor Company said, “I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile.”

Adios and God Bless.

Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? - It is a difficult decision to make. Lets start it this way - What are you more interested in? Money? or Friends? or Both? If its purely Money, then Blog might be an appropriate answer. But consider this - It will be people (visitors) that will bring traffic to your blog and then Money will follow. This will be possible after a time and during this time it will be your friends who will be the starters. If you are looking for friends only, then its true that not many will be interested in knowing how you have beaten them in the game or the other way round. So it will be preferable to have a Forum where they can share ideas with you and others. But you can share your insider knowledge with them and invite comments from your Blog. You can also put up information on what others (including your friends) don't know about Tennis. The blog you create can provide News, Inside Information and also Techniques that can be used by the new entrants in the world of Tennis.
Making Money in 2011 Making Money in 2011 - Hello forum members! As we draw closer to the new year I thought it would be appropriate to change the title of our forum category "Making Money in 2010" to "Making Money in 2011" - I'm looking forward to some interesting discussions and wish everyone a prosperous New Year!
QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? QuickBooks vs. Microsoft Money vs....? - I have always used Microsoft Money to run my business - accounting, invoicing, etc. It came with my computer when I got it and integrated well with my online banking system so everything is a breeze. It only takes 30-60 minutes every quarter to do the bookkeeping (keep in mind that I have a very simple business - no inventory, very little invoicing, I do all my payments by credit card, etc). Is QuickBooks or Money the best accounting tool for small business owners? Or is there something even better?
My Daily Routine My Daily Routine - I'm usually up at 6:30, have a quick breakfast and get an early start to work. It's nice to have an hour or so before the phones start ringing. I'm maybe a little to addicted to my Outlook as I'm on it all day creating and responding to emails. Things tend to settle down in the afternoon and I get most of my tasks done in the morning so I can use that time to research, browse for ideas, and post on this forum! How about you Jen?

Re: Need some information on freelance jobs! - [quote="adaliabarclay":noolr5kc]Elance and getfreelancer.com are great but having some good work/project on these sites you must have to have some experience and good reputation , you also can visit some forum based market places like sitepoint and digital forum have there you also can get some jobs and also directly can contact with webmasters those are searching for some Free lancer[/quote:noolr5kc] Yes, you definitely need experience and a good reputation if you want to compete on freelance sites. Even then, the competition is fierce. Forums are an excellent way to bring in freelance work, and that is how I get most of my work. I'd settle using forums to find work over freelance sites any day.
