Never compete with anybody else; but yourself

Guest post by: John Bino

Article Overview: I have some major disagreements with our current school system, especially because of the culture of competing against one another. We are pitched against our classmates to evaluate who is better than the other. And since only 1 can be the winner, we develop 99 losers. So then, why are we surprised when 1% of the population earns more money the 99%? So then, why are we surprised that 99% of the world is poor? Isn’t it hypocrisy? Whereas, you ask anybody who has made a difference in our society as to what they owe their success to. Invariably it comes to the fact that these people competed with themselves, and not others. They wanted to be better than their previous best. They wanted to beat their previous performance. And that is the key to success.

I have some major disagreements with our current school system, especially because of the culture of competing against one another. I was recently introduced to an extraordinary athlete, Ben Comen, when reading the book ‘Start with Why’ by Simon Sinek. Ben is an extraordinary athlete. He is part of his school’s cross-country running team. When the rest of the runners finish the race in 20 minutes, Ben takes 40. The reason? Because he not been blessed with a normal physiology. He has cerebral palsy. But that doesn’t stop him from running; he loves running. During his runs, he trips and falls and picks himself up and keeps going. The beauty is that once the other runners finish their run they all come back and run behind Ben till he finishes the race. Extraordinary indeed. Now tell me, whom do you think Ben is competing against? His fellow runners? Or himself? Ben is running to beat his previous time; that’s all he cares for. And the result? The rest of the world gets behind him to support him to attain his goal. The moral of the story is this: If you compete with others, no one will support you. But if you compete with yourself, everyone will. So how does this apply to your life? It’s simple. The next time you start off on a project, don’t compare yourself against the others, but rather with yourself. If you make better progress than your earlier attempt, you are a winner. Keep trying to beat your previous best, and before long you will have the world behind you. You can find his inspiring story on his website. Just google 'living without limits ben comen' and you will get there. In addition, search ‘Ben Comen’ on YouTube and you can see an inspiring video. Go check him out. To your success. God Bless.

Increase the value of the building Increase the value of the building - Yes that is a good point - it would increase the value of your building by a significant amount. I would consider offering something, which does not compete with Wal-Mart, potentially a gas station, or even a financial services business. Anything that does not compete with Wal-Mart, but can take advantage of their customers.
Non Disclosure Non Disclosure - I'm asked to sign non disclosure and non compete agreements by most of my clients. I've also had people sign non compete agreements for me. If the person is being above board with you, then I don't see a reason not to sign. Any subcontractor that I ever asked to sign and they refused, ended up trying to cheat the company at some point. Making Money in Eastern Europe. Making Money in Eastern Europe. - I'm from Russia let me tell you something you know how if an Indian family comes to Canada and opens a corner shop, then most Canadians are willing to accept that the family has an inherent human right to do business in Canada? In Belarus, Russia or Eastern Europe, this doesn't happen. the society at large (irrespective of the authorities) does not recognize that foreigners have a right to compete with locals...and I'm not even going to get into what lukashenko thinks of foreigners...however, keep in mind that he is consistently ranked as one of the world's worst dictators. in other words, do not compete with locals for you'll get shot or kidnapped if you do. that's just what happens. In eastern Europe, the society recognizes that locals have an inherent right to muscle out foreigners...if you look into the subject, you'll be surprised how many foreign businessmen have been murdered last year in Belarus the point: you will need to commercialize opportunities where you help the locals do business in Canada or other English speaking courtiers. Export or import comes to mind.... just don't position your self as a competitor for local entrepreneurs. Rather, position your self as a supporter of Byelorussia entrepreneurs.... particularly in the commodities business.
Re: Onpage Optimisation Re: Onpage Optimisation - Yes, they are very important in onpage optimization. However, competition is main in SEO whether you are doing on-page or off-page. Suppose if any competitor is 5 years old and you started to compete that site then you would be able to us new technologies which your competitors may not have used hence it is easy to overcome the competitors.
Re: Team, Need your Help . . . . Re: Team, Need your Help . . . . - Hey Trent, Thank you for taking the time to lay out some ideas. What I meant by "pretty fast" was my new business will take up alot of thinking and doing. I dont want to do something in addition that will compete (too much) for all that thinking and doing. I will review it all tomorrow. Thanks a million! Regards Barry
