Online Entrepreneur – Opportunity to embrace the new trend
|
| Guest post by: John Bino |
Article Overview: The last business that I failed in was in the holiday and tourism industry. I had partnered with 2 other friends in selling timeshare packages to the market. The money seemed good, the business plan was drawn out and we got on with the game. However, the economic downturn hit and out went the sales. No one was interested in buying up vacation packages when all they had on their mind was survival. You can say ‘Wrong timing’ or ‘Ignorance of Economic Trends’ was the cause of the downfall. It did cost me a bit of money – office rent, office furniture and fixtures, brochure design and printing, etc. And that’s when I went broke the second time in my life!

Online Entrepreneur – Opportunity to embrace the new trend
The last business that I failed
in was in the holiday and tourism industry. I had partnered with 2 other
friends in selling timeshare packages to the market. The money seemed good, the
business plan was drawn out and we got on with the game. However, the economic
downturn hit and out went the sales. No one was interested in buying up
vacation packages when all they had on their mind was survival. You can say
‘Wrong timing’ or ‘Ignorance of Economic Trends’ was the cause of the downfall.
It did cost me a bit of money – office rent, office furniture and fixtures,
brochure design and printing, etc. And that’s when I went broke the second time
in my life!
But not being the person to give
up, I started looking out for some other opportunities – but this time one
where there is not much cost implication, and the risk is mitigated. I did find
one but after a 6 month long research. It was an online business. I took to the
Internet because of the cost advantages it offered. It caught my fancy and I
decided to become an online entrepreneur.
But before I chose my business of
choice, I had to sift through a lot of garbage online. Almost 99% of what you
see online on how to make money is not what it seems. Most of them are scams,
and some legitimate ones don’t make money. So I do understand why many people
who want to be online entrepreneurs prefer to wait and watch, before deciding
on a particular opportunity. It’s the natural thing to do. However, the mistake
that I made was to wait for 6 months to launch into one. In hindsight, I feel
it was too long a time to waste. I tend to justify that sometimes by saying
that I was new to the Internet and an online entrepreneurship opportunity
seemed far-fetched to me back then. However, my advice to all budding online
entrepreneurs is to start off with a minimal investment.
However, whatever online business
you get into, remember to invest time and money into learning a bit about how
to run an online business first from a valid source, before jetting off. Many
people in their eagerness to be an online entrepreneur don’t invest the time
and money to educate themselves first. This causes many of them to give up
easily. My strong advice to you is to first educate yourself by enrolling in
some good online university and then decide on how to use the skills learnt to
start off on your own. That’s what I am doing, and things are going as planned
for me.
So remember, becoming an online
entrepreneur is first about education and then about execution. Don’t mix them
up. That’s the best way to bring your start-up costs even lower.
All the best, and God Bless.
