Benefits of Learning An Instrument - Is It Really Worth My Time?
Now is a great time to learn how to play an instrument. How old or how smart you are is not a factor here. Anyone can do this and do it very well. I bet you will even discover that it can be fun too. Listed below are some benefits of learning an instrument.
Read through the list and see if this is something you would like to try. Who knows, there may be a few things listed here you have not thought about before.
1. Appreciation for hard work - Remember that it takes time, hard work and patience to really learn something and do it well. A great way to learn this lesson is to play an instrument.
2. Perseverance and commitment - When you decide that you want to be successful at learning something new, you must commit to it. Committing to a project or new endeavor means that you are going to see it all the way through to the end. Perseverance is the only way this can be done.
3. Confidence - The more often you play your instrument, the more confidence you will have in yourself. You are fully aware that you can work hard, persevere and tackle anything that comes your direction.
4. Achievement and self-esteem - As you develop your musical skills; you will see your progress and develop a sense of satisfaction. Recognizing and celebrating your achievements builds self-esteem that easily transfers to other areas beyond music.
5. Focus and concentration - Good practice techniques can help you develop concentration for longer periods of time and the added ability to focus on one thing at a time. When you don't have focus, you loose your sense of direction and wind up wandering around aimlessly. In order to do something well, you must be able to focus.
6. Goal-Setting - To help you in completing tasks, it is worthwhile to set goals. This skill can be learned by learning an instrument. After you have decided on some important goals to achieve, write down specific tasks that will help you reach those goals.
7. Self-discipline - It may be difficult at first to develop a habit of practicing when you first begin to learn an instrument. You will feel encouraged to continue once you have this habit in place and see your progress.
8. Coordination - Playing a musical instrument encourages you to develop coordination in the large and small muscle groups of the body. This is very helpful in the development of fine motor skills like moving your fingers independently.
9. Self-expression and creativity - Music can give you the opportunity to practice creativity and a safe place to communicate feelings and self-expression.
10. Friendships - Many new friendships can be established when learning an instrument simply because you have a new way of interacting and relating to others.
11. Entertainment and relaxation - It can be fun to learn an instrument, participate in group activities and listen to music. It can provide hours of entertainment and relaxation for the rest of your life.
The above reading is just a short list representing some of the benefits of learning an instrument. I bet you can probably think of many more. Take those next steps with an instrument you have always wanted to play. Find a teacher in your area and sign up for lessons. In no time, you will soon discover the gift of music and the enjoyment in sharing it with others.
