Build a Portfolio

Before you can put yourself out there to marketers, it is important to give them something to look at that will show your skills. Capitalize on areas of expertise you already have because it is easiest to write about what you already know.

Study Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Learn to Promote

If you want to get paid to write articles, it is important that you understand how writing for the web is different than writing a book, or a report. Focus on learning about keywords and what they mean, how to choose them to write your content, and how to use SEO to market your content, because when you write for certain venues, you will be able to earn a small amount of money each time your articles get read. This is where residuals come in, and since you cannot edit all your articles over time in these venues, learning SEO and promotion before getting started is key.

They will pay a small amount for each article published to their guidelines, and no application is required to get started. This is also a great place to send people for a portfolio, and residuals are earned on all the content you publish here.

Look into freelance bidding sites such as vWorker, Get a Freelancer, ScriptLance, and eLance. Bid on many projects to get a shot at establishing positive records there.

Look for Jobs

Check out FreelanceWritingGigs.com for daily job listings Monday through Friday. Don't forget to check Craigslist and other online job boards to find jobs you can apply for. Many jobs have ongoing work, but be prepared to take time to job hunt.

Write

Write your heart out. Don't be afraid of feedback from your clients. Don't be afraid of edits.

Get Paid

It will take time to build momentum and start earning a steady income equal to a full time income. It will take creative budgeting and spending to ensure you can get from one pay day to the next, as some people will pay upfront, others will pay at completion, and others will pay on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Most venues will require a PayPal account to get paid, but chances are you have one. If not, it's free.

Re: Has anyone used Spyfu.com? - I have also used Spyfu. It's good to find out what kind of strategy your competitor's are following in Organic and Paid SEO. We can also find out the list of organic keywords our competitors are working on along with their organic ranking in Google. It's really an interesting tool.
CEOs and Email - Slaves? - I wonder if the emails they are responding to are filtered thru their assistants first 'cos they seem to spend a lot of their off hours responding to them. True they are successful but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that price. I'd be interested to know what's the in the typical day planner of Entrepreneurs on the Forum. Entrepreneurs are a different breed than Paid Employees- so it would be interesting to view the contrast.

Well, I have learned from realhomebasedsuccess dot com that there are home based business opportunities and ideas that could be our option such as: -Selling Goods or Providing Services Online -Making Money through Direct Marketing -Becoming an Affiliate Marketer -Getting Paid on a Click Thru but I was thinking which is the best one and most effective in terms of generating consistent Ongoing Profits. What do you think? do you have any insights?
Re: Do Articles For Businesswomen need to be written differently - I don't think that as a general rule an article [i:11csddi3]needs[/i:11csddi3] to be written "for women." In my opinion, the two important writing rules are: 1) Write for your targeted audience. If it happens to be predominantly women or predominantly men, then write accordingly (if you have the ability to make that distinction in your writing). 2) Write in your own voice. Be natural. If you are a serious writer, your style will become apparent over time and you will develop a following. It may happen that your style is more attractive to one sex or the other. If so, you may be able to advance your writing career by further cultivating your sensitivity within that style. Bottom line: I do believe that certain styles appeal to women, certain styles appeal to men and if you know the distinction, have the ability to write in a particular style and choose to target one sex or the other, then go for it. But I don't think that it is a necessity in today's market. GT :-]
