Business Blog Step 12 - Promotion Using Methods Specific to Blogs

Once we have a Business Blog that has sufficient content on it and is working well, then we clearly will want to spread the word as widely as possible that it exists, that is to say promote the Blog and its content to the relevant target people and beyond.

As with any online site, the idea that you can build your Business Blog and then people will arrive in their hundreds will find you sadly unimpressed with the results that you receive. To make it successful, you will also need to spend time in promoting and marketing your blog.

Here are some ideas for promotion which are specific to blogs:

Blog Directories

There are an increasing number of directories which are dedicated to blogs and which can offer a good way to get your blog referenced and linked to. Most are general directories with sub categories which function in the same way as the main web directories, though there are already some which are focused on certain particular market areas.

Being found in these directories will help not only encourage visitors to your Business blog but also help with the Page Rank element of Google.

Blog Search Engines

There are some main Blog Search Engines which are important to be indexed in – luckily, this can be done rather more simply than is the case with the mainstream Search Engines by “pinging” the relevant web servers (see below).

The Blog Search Engines will generally then index the new posts on your Blog almost as soon as you have posted them. This is one of the key reasons why you can find such up to date information using these Search Engines and a contributory factor as to why blogs are so valuable.

Two of the main blog Search Engines are: Technorati: you need to ping the Technorati server and ideally also sign up and “claim” your blog – it’s free and recommended as one of the first things that you should do when promoting your Business Blog; Google’s Blog Search: picks up from various sources so it will pick up your content if you do a general ping.

Pinging

Pinging, in terms of blogs, is where you send a short automatic notification to the blog servers (such as Search Engines) to tell them that you have posted new information on your Business Blog and that they should come to index it! Simple – just remember to post and ping!

Pinging can be set up to happen automatically within the Blog system itself in most cases and this is by far the simplest way. Alternatively, you do not have to ping lots of different places manually – fortunately, there are some specialist sites which will help to do this for you.

As there is a great deal of overlap in the servers that they ping, it is not necessary to use them all so select your preferred service and use that. The main ones to check out are: Pingomatic Pingoat and Feedburner’s PingShot

Re: Your choice between... Re: Your choice between... - I will take the $100,000 and double it on it becomes millions before I spend it. Though I am crazy about information, yet I would rather take the money and turn it into a million before I spend a dime out of it. I will do it in 4 steps. Step 1 turn $100,000 to $200,000 Step 2 turn $200,000 to $400,000 Step 3 turn $400,000 to $800,000 Step 4 turn $800,000 to $1600,000. After getting the goal of step 4, I will spend the $600,000 on myself then continue to double the millions again. I could then by the book for $1,000,000

Step by step approach Step by step approach - Here's what I would do; Step 1 - Observe Wal-Mart’s target customers, what does Wal-Mart offer them? How long do they stay? Discover what it is that they might want or need that Wal-Mart doesn't offer, and then write those ideas down. Some ideas to get you started are - A cafe or fast food venue, something for the kids to do while the parents shop, etc Step 2 - Take that list, and weigh up the pros and cons of each idea, and then select the best one for you. Don't worry about not using all the space. Step 3 - Start the best business for you, and then release the other ideas to the general market and sublet the rest of the space to those who could fill some of the niches you've come up with, plus any they can come up with. If money isn't a factor then developing the building to suit multiple small leases may be a better option, as it's a diversified income, which is potentially more stable than one big income stream.
