Internet Marketing Tool 3 - How To Write a Great Press Release

Conventional press releases a great internet marketing tool and are targeted at encouraging a journalist to reprint part or all of your release in their publication. However, an online press release also needs to focus on the following topics;

1) The reader - your target market may end up reading your online press release on a press release website which will increase your brand awareness.

2) Search engine optimization - many press release websites have significant authority with search engines because of the volume of original material which is regularly published and therefore your press release must be written to be search engine friendly.

An online press release can be one of the most effective methods of promoting a new website for free or very low cost. It should have a unique angle, something which will encourage journalists to consider republishing a segment from your release.

5 TOP TIPS FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT OF YOUR ONLINE PRESS RELEASE:

1) Have a catchy title which includes your keywords - your headline must be targeted at journalists, readers, and search engines. It needs to be engaging enough for both journalists and other readers to read further - and it needs to include your keyword phrase.

2) Describe your story in the first two lines and include your keywords - the first two lines should be straight to the point. It should summarize your story while also including a reason to read further with the same keyword phrase that you included in the title.

3) All paragraphs should be short and to the point - all the paragraphs should be easy to read with no more than 2/3 sentences per paragraph. Readers will not get to the end if it is not easy on the eye and contains information that is relevant to your story.

4) Include a call to action - you need to include a call to action for readers who are interested in your subject matter by mentioning you and your company and what your company does with an offer of further information.

5) Include a link to your website - you must include your full website address so that if it is converted to a live link you readers can click on the link without having to type it manually.

TRACKING THE SUCCESS OF YOUR ONLINE PRESS RELEASE

You have to be able to analyze what the reason behind a particular press release's success was, so that you are able to replicate the success in the future by using a service called 'Google Alerts' where Google will alert you as soon as a particular phrase is published in a news story on the internet.

So by putting the title of your press release as your alert phrase in Google Alerts, Google will send you an email with a link to that story as soon as it finds it and if your title is unique you should not receive any incorrect alerts.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
