Top 10 reasons to guest blog
I thought I'd share with you my personal top 10 favorite reasons for guest blogging, in the hopes that they would convince you that there is enough merit in the act of guest posting on someone else's website to want you to start your own guest blogging campaign. I will tell you now, it is mutually beneficial, and entirely worth doing, and doing well.
Reason #1
It acts as an introduction between yourself, and other bloggers out there who share some similar themes and topics as yourself. This can be a great way of saying "hello", and if it happens to be someone you would appreciate a backlink from, then this is probably a much more likely method of succeeding vs. the typical email, requesting the standard link exchange request which many of us simply delete upon receiving.
Reason #2
The backlink we just mentioned, Google looks favorably on blogs that are being linked to by other sites that are related, even better is the fact that you will be using the keywords that you are targeting with which to link to your site with, which carries even more SEO weight.
Reason #3
You get an opportunity to write your best content. I mean after all, you want to make a great first impression, don't you? Writing your best pieces when you are submitting them for someone else's use, says a lot about who you are, and is sure to impress more than a few people.
Reason #4
You get introduced to an entirely new set of readers who are regulars on the blog you are a guest on. If you wrote a great article, many of them will click over to check out your own blog, and if your writing style is something they enjoy, they could become new readers of yours for a long time to come. Remember, just as you are working hard at building up a loyal following, and large number of RSS subscribers, so are they. When you post, those people will all be notified, and will read your post.
Reason #5
Bloggers have blogger friends, by writing a great post and publishing it on someone else's site, his blogging friends will take notice of you, and while it isn't quite as good as an official introduction, it is the next best thing. The blogging community is a powerful one, and it can assist in the success of a new blog if it believes it to be worthy.
Reason #6
An increase in traffic isn't uncommon, and if the blog you are a guest on is a popular one, and your article does well, you could notice it in your referral stats for some time to come sending you highly targeted traffic, month after month. Imagine the effectiveness of this once you've been doing it for some time, and have dozens of these sites adding to your traffic flow.
Reason #7
It's a nice thing to do, and gives the other blogger a reprieve from writing for a day, or perhaps an opportunity to stockpile an article to hold in reserve, either way I know I appreciate it when I can submit someone else's article and relax for the day.
Reason #7
The other readers get the benefit of hearing a different "voice" and seeing a different perspective. We don't all see things exactly the same way, and we each have different beliefs. That is why one writer will never appeal entirely to his entire audience. Having different opinions isn't a bad thing, and should never keep you from publishing, (or submitting) a piece of work simply because you don't think the blog owner agrees with your perspective.
Reason #8
The more blogs you are seen to be writing for, the more of an expert you will be perceived as. No matter how well you write, or how highly your own readers think of you, if you can multiply that across multiple blogs, you will effectively increase your image as a leader in your particular niche.
Reason #9
Branding is another important aspect of internet marketing, and it's important to our success to be recognized, and trusted. By placing yourself in front of all these different groups of people, over and over, you will be building up your brand in a way that would likely cost you thousands in advertising dollars were you to go about it differently.
Reason #10
It will make you better at what you do. By teaching or explaining to others, we come to understand our topics even better than if we simply absorbed them and kept them to ourselves. By writing publicly, our skill at both writing and getting our points across will develop and we will be the better for it.
Guest blogging, or guest posting as some people call it, is a rewarding, and mutually beneficial aspect of our business, and it's one that you ignore at your own peril. If you haven't already started your guest post campaign, I'd recommend you start writing some great pieces, and then offering them to bloggers within your niche, who you admire, and feel your topic would fit in with.
