Article #38 Simple How To Web Analytics

Web analytics is nothing more than a chart to track your website traffic and collecting other data that is helpful. Data such as the best source of your web traffic, keywords that are bringing in the money, which keywords are not so you can drop it and which pay-per-click advertising campaign generates the best possible return on investment (ROI).

There are a few free analytics tools out there like Google Analytics, Yahoo Web Analytics and Webalizer. Google Analytics is the easiest to set up and use. Google provides lessons on how to read the chart also. Google Web Analytics includes more advanced features like click behavior so you can optimize your ads on your webpage. You can track most of your sites and pages using this tool.

Once you find the web analytics tool you are going to use, you have to install the tracking code. Copy the code they give you when signing up, then go to the page or pages you want to track. On each page, you must open your editing tool and paste the tracking code immediately before the closing tag. Then, save the edited code to your webpages. You must do this for every page and republish that page, for the analytics to start to work for you. Google Analytics, if set up properly should now read ‘receiving data’. Your code is now installed and you should be receiving data in about a day.

Using web analytics will help you better plan out your marketing campaigns because the information you receive will tell the true story of your website. In return, will make you a better marketer. Happy tracking and God Bless!
